Propagating Orientals from Scales

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I have a question about scale propagation and orientals. Living in Minnesota, I plant orientals and other tender bulbs much deeper than asiatics or LAs. If I start an outdoor nursery for scale propagation, will the tiny bulblets survive a Minnesota winter? Any suggestions for overwintering? Would I need to bring these indoors?

I bring mine in for the first couple of years.
When I pot them up, I sink the pots into the ground forthe summer. and then bring them in. When/if they die down, I put them in the fridge in a baggie so they don't dry out too much0 for the winter. Bring them out in Feb/March to start growing again. If you are at home during the winter, then 8 weeks or so in the fridge is enough - IMCO.I do this for all my zonal challenged scales.

Inanda, thanks for the info. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Do you unpot the bublets for the frig or do you refrigerate pot and all? Seeing as I don't have two refrigeraters, I think I'd have to unpot. So, would I do the same as when I first started the scale? Put them in a little growing medium in a baggie?
