WIth regular Foxgloves (non Thaspi) I have the best luck planting them from small plants in the fall. They bloom early mine are about done blooming. Then I just pull them out.
Digitalis Mertonensis-"Strawberry Foxglove"
Siggy-
Wasn't it you that grew the cobaea last year?
Did you plant any of it this year?
-T
Nice place and pics you have there Siggy. Beautiful front garden!
Debbie
wonderful hollyhocks Siggy. I have some from the RU, but we keep getting hail storms, so I haven't planted them in the ground. I just hope they're still alive when I do get to plant them.:) How did yours make it through the storms?
Thanks Deb :-) The front and a small side yard is all I have. But I am lucky the front yard faces East.
I haven't had any hail this year. I have some Black Hollyhocks I started in the winter that I was planing on putting in.
Taylor--
Just wanted to let you know that we went to Antique Rose Emporium-Independence yesterday and they had foxglove still blooming in their "display gardens'. It wasn't strawberry foxglove, it was a dark purple foxglove; but it was very healthy looking and blooming. They are a little less humid there but it was 98 degrees. It was in a bed receiving west shade in late afternoon.
Got the seeds too today--thanks a million!
Debbie
I'll bet you had a great time there. I've never been, but hear such positive things.
What roses did you get?
Did they tell you those foxglove have been perennial for them?
-T
I didn't get any roses....believe it or not I came home with only 4 plants and 3 of them were that John Fannick summer phlox. I'm trying to fill specific spots in the garden.
It was 98 degrees but we had a lot of fun...they have the display gardens built up to about 6 acres now. Actually the only real questions I asked them were about the phlox--they had the native magenta pink (a little "loud" for the area I want it in--its near a rangoon creeper so I'm looking for soft pinks or whites), a beautiful bluish/lavender color which was an absolute butterfly magnet, this John Fannick, a one lone white one in a pot. Here the whites are real prone to powdery mildew.
They had an absolutely beautiful, huge russian sage which was in full sun and absolutely 'glowed' with an ethereal pale purple. I've never seen a speciman like that.
They also had Larkspur still in full bloom with a west exposure up against a stone/rock wall. I never would have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes.
By the way--I have 2 white Texas Stars coming early next week--I have wanted that plant for soooooo long!
Debbie
Yay! I'm glad you finally found that one!
