A different rose

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Here is a subject that rarely gets mentioned on the trees and shrubs forum: roses. Here is an interesting species rose I've grown for a few years now, Rosa glauca. It is grown mainly for its bluish foliage, which is retained through the full summer. I really like it. It is different and understated and carries itself with a dignified charm.

These are not the best pictures, but they are the best I could do. For three weeks now I've tried to get a decent shot of this plant. The leaves are so thin that I think the infra-red focusing passes right through, so every shot has been out of focus. Tonight, however, the gods looked down on me in favor I guess.

My second shot.

Oh, and I should mention the flowers. They are simple, five-petaled, small and pink, and very, very pretty. Tend to get a little lost in the foliage, but worth seeking out for the week or so they exist. The hips that follow are decent enough.

Never saw one before!

Here's a suggestion for focussing on something like that: try using manual focus first, if your camera supports it; or else focus on the ground or a wall, half-click to hold, then shift over to the rose at exactly the same distance and finish the click. Be sure the ground or wall is about the same brightness or you might screw up your exposure.
