Madonna Lily Problem

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I have two Madonna Lilies. One looks great, the other looks like it's arthritic. I thought maybe it got hit by some frost, but I would expect that the rest of the plant, as it grows, would start looking normal. It isn't. The leaves are skinny and crinkly looking, Both plants are the same height right now, about a foot. Sorry, I don't have a digi, so you'll have to use your imagination. Anyone ever have this problem with a Madonna? I'm seriously thinking of digging it up and destroying the bulb.

I've noted 4 lilies in the garden with twisty foliage and have been wondering if I should destroy them to. I'm yet to try Madonna lilies; they're so beautiful, I don't blame you for not wanting to take any chances.

Neal, do you know which lilies they are? Have you ever had this before? Can't for the life of me figure what happened. The Madonnas are a little different. When you buy them, you get a potted plant and you plant it very shallow. To tell you the truth, I don't know if there is a bulb or not. I was amazed that they made it through the winter. I planted them last fall. When I uncovered them they were already coming up. That might be what's wrong. Even though I uncovered them very early, there had already been substantial growth. I had a phlox last year that didn't get uncovered when it should have and it was weak all summer and did not bloom. In fact, it couldn't get its stem off the ground. Seems to be fine this year. Maybe, I'll just move it elsewhere and see what happens. Now all I have to do is figure out where elsewhere is! I have lilies everywhere!

My madonnas are barely out of the ground. I was given one after it was done blooming in 2000. In 2005 I dug up 14 bulbs and replanted them . I only have1, just poking thru. I hope I didn't lose the rest.
