Whos in Calgary and what are they doing?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Just a large bay window in the dining room and every window I can put a shelving unit against. ;)

The dining room is great for Florida trops since it can get rather cool in there in the midst of our lovely DEEP freezes (great since they have a need for semi dormancy). We also don't heat the third floor (l guess ours would be considered a 2 1/2 story house) so other cool dormancy loving plants can be taken up there).

that bleeding heart vine, is it white with a little red center? I saw one atthe Butterfly gardens last year, and thought it was amazing. Good for you if you have one of those. WTG Pam.

Pam, you really must dig out that horrible campanula now, this spring, before you plant any of your goodies there. Truly.

Unless you plant your wonderful purchases in other beds. Better do that actually. Think it will take you all summer to dig over that bed. Mine is getting better after 4 years but still had to dig up quite a few lilies this week to get the!@#$ campanula mixed up in it.

Should have realized you had all the waterlilies you can find in nurseries.

We now have a spare room in our house, so this winter I'll have a lot'o space to over winter plants! YAY! How do you over winter your phormiums? Do they need really bright light?

Steve

Linda it's the one you are describing. =)

Ginny most of my new purchases will be going into pots........the few that won't are going into areas where the nasties aren't growing (and I'll be very busy with every weed killer going this summer). We've tried digging down to China and hand removing even tiny, tiny roots but 3-Way is the way I'll be attacking them this summer.

Steve I overwintered mine in the dining room........south facing window, but because it's a bay, it also gets east and west facing sunlight.

We drove the Flames' Red Mile tonight.........OMG I now know what rush hour traffic is like! I truly give all of you who drive in that daily credit.......and I'm going home to smile very fondly at the streets there. ;)

We are going to finish off our greenhouse hopping (shopping) by visiting Cobblestone tomorrow.

Carol (and Calgary) has been truly wonderful (we also loved the restaurants here that we don't have at home) ........the RoundUp she's going to host *will* be fantastic!!! Ü

p.s. the longer you can stay here the more you'll be able to see!!! So many gorgeous gardens (and greenhouses with exceptional prices). I did see many huge well established potted Florida tropical type plants in the $70.00 to $150.00 range but there were *many* deals here as well.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Well the car's packed and there is still space for a couple more. So far no plants will have to sit on my lap or on the floor around my feet. Carol we still have room for a few *couldn't pass up* temptations from Cobblestone! Ü

Carol and Pam you sure look like you had lots of fun! Pam, I think you need a few more plants for the back!

Thanks Pam.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Guess what we went to one more garden centre today and Pam didnt buy anything! Good thing too because she would have had to wander around a shopping centre for 2-3 hours waiting for Greg carrying a laptop and plants!
So we visited 8 garden centres altogether!I dropped her off at a NE shopping mall a couple of ours ago because it is near where her hubbie is working this week and he won't have to negotiatie cross town rush hour to pick her up and be on their way out of town this evening. We had fun!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Carol thank you soooo very much for being such a wonderful hostess!!! :D I found that the mall admin would take the laptop and hold it for me in storage. Thank goodness cause it weighs a ton!

LOL Donna.....as it just happens to turn out we've loaded up the car a little bit more today ;) and we will be in Medicine Hat shortly (I'm sure I'll be tucking (jamming)one or two more plants in the car there. :) ;S :)

We are incredibly broke now (filled DD fridge and cupboards too) but what a wonderful trip this was!

Thank you again fancyvan!!! :D

Fancyvan, your porch looks like a nursery! lucky you to have an enclosed porch. That would be heavenly. I cannot even imagine planting all those in one season! I am impressed that you can grow such a diversity in so cold a zone. You and lilypon both! I have trouble enough in zone 4. Will have to check out the photos in your diary. Thank you for all the lovely views of your "treasures"! BAM

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thank you Bam!

Lots of people think we can't garden in this climate ! And there are certainly lots of things I would like to grow but can't. - partly because of the zone, partly because of the short growing season.I am taking pics of my spring garden and will get them posted soon - then I will take another series in mid summer for contrast.
Right now I am busy trying to get all those perennials in the ground! It is a bit too early for the annuals to go in here.

Potsdam, NY(Zone 4a)

Hi Fancy! I hope everything does beautifully for you. The weather here has not settled down yet. Very hot, then chilly, cold and windy. Hard to get things done so far, but veggie garden coming along. looks a lot better than last year, for sure. And it is early here, too. Going on a nursery trip the Friday before Memorial Day with a friend, but do not expect to buy many plants. Will have to see. BAM
