Nice, Kevin!
Is that a named cultivar(Butterflies, Elizabeth, etc.), or did you just luck into a yellow-flowered seedling?

Elburn, IL(Zone 5a)

That's just a very yellow M. acuminata, no cultivar.

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

Kevin,
Very nice!

Where did you purchase the tree?

You're now going to propagate the tree and distribute it to all of the tree-people on Dave's Garden, correct? (:o) (just kidding; well, not really)

For scientific purposes, I'm pretty sure the tree should be grown in zone 4a, in Minneapolis, just to make sure the tree can handle -30 F and still produce those gorgeous yellow flowers. (:o)

Yeah, now you've done it.
Now I've got to start practicing grafting magnolias, so I can entice you out of some scionwood of that sucker - but not until I get the protocol down pat.
One of these days....

Elburn, IL(Zone 5a)

I got the tree at Johnsons Nursery up in Wisconsin if I remember correctly. I will put a call in to them and make sure of its origins. Lucky, you can have as much scion wood as you need!

Illinois, IL(Zone 5b)

Oooooh, that's a nice one!

Too bad magnolias are so susceptible to droughts. We lost a few last year and I'm trying to resist the temptation to plant more. (But, if Lucky is going to start grafting them for us . . . )

Guy--I think you heard the same thing I did--Lucky offering to graft up untold numbers of this plant to spread around the country. He is SUCH a nice guy! All us vets are fine men. I am waiting to hear back from Johnsons on this tree.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Count me in on some scion wood. That tree is exceptional!
