Is this a Magnolia problem?

My Little Gem Magnolia is loosing leaves. Is this some cycle? I ask because its putting out new growth like crazy.
This is a pic of the leaves that are falling. They all look this way before they fall. Is this normal or a disease?

I believe it is the season. They shed, but never go bare, so they add a leaf and shed a leaf. You might have a little white fly on that. You can handle it with a spray.
