4Paws, the best protection against weed-whacker damage is a properly-sized (i.e. LARGE) weed-free mulch circle. You shouldn't have to be be whacking weeds within several feet of your tree trunks because competitive grass and weeds have no business growing that close to your trees. And if it's your kid who is doing the whacking, hold his i-Pod or MP-3 hostage until he completes the job successfully without bark damage.

Now, if you're also talking about rabbit damage or deer damage, that's a different story!

Guy, you are absolutely correct, and most of the trees I'm concerned about do have that circle, but not all. I'm too far ahead of myself; brain works faster than body. It's not my kid, it's supposed to be my DH (I think he does things wrong so he's never asked again to do them), and now it will be me. No animal damage in that area. If I had a kid, I don't think he'd have one of those things, anyway. If I had my druthers, my dh wouldn't have a tv, either.

I've got 'way more to do than I can do correctly every time, so I wanted to put the tree guards on as part protection and part a flag reminder about the trees being there.

Thank you!

Well, if it's your DH, I guess you could hold his beer hostage . . .

I'm the beer drinker (particular about it). I hold his allowance hostage.
