This morning's JMGs

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Dispite the 35 mph winds this morning, a few more plants managed to bloom. They did not last too long.

This is Sazanami with three blooms.

The seeds of this plant were labeled - Aofuiri semiha asagishima tairin. I like the white color breaks and ruffling. - Arlan

Thanks all for your nice comments! This morning even more were blooming, but I had to leave before I could download the camera. When I return home Thursday, I'll post if there is anything worth sharing.

This is my first year growing JMG's and Joseph is right, they are even more beautiful in real life! Prior to this, I only knew them through the pictures many of you posted! Thanks! - Arlan

Here are the latest from this morning:

This is from one of my Rose Silk plants. There is something about this color that is subtle and classy.

Murisaki Jishi plant # 05. I'm not sure what the correct type for this name is....this is interesting though! The flower is rolled back at the edge giving the pentagon shape.

Really pretty flowers! I like them all! Thanks!!

Thanx for sharing these beauties Arlan.

I like the 'Cornell' llooking one that came out of the Large Flowered Mix...that mix is full of good stuff...Did you get seeds directly from a Takii package or 'second' generation(?)...

The Muraski Jishi is a double purple nil,so it seems someone has got the names mixed up somewhere...it looks like one of the main blizzard patterns that has been coming out of the 'Blue Henkas',but this is the first that I've seen it with the corolla edges folded back like that...it's an interesting effect for sure(!)...

The SOI is looking pretty much like what has been coming out lately, especially with the thin dark blue upper margins connecting the points of the primary ribs...this makes the lighter blue areas between the main Star ribs stand out better...

NIce photography(!)...

AWESOME blooms! I wish my MGs were blooming, but they're only seedlings yet.

simply gorgeous!

Thanks all for the nice comments! I sure am enjoying each morning. Here are some different ones from this morning....

A Berlin Blue in a different part of the yard showing some darker blue. I think this angle sometimes really shows the beauty of the flower form! The yellow bloom in the background is a yellow straight neck squash! Yes, JMGs stole some green bean row space....

Tie Dye Pink plant #01. I like the light pink halo.

Tie Dye Pink plant # 02. I little darker version. I don't know if the color shade is plant specific or individual bloom specific. I'll be watching...

Early Call plant # 03. From big box seed rack...

Ehigasa plant # 04. All plants from this pack have been virually identical, down to the rolled flower edge...

Kikyousaki plant # 01. This plant has a small growth habit so far and leaf type a bit wrinkled. I do like the star shaped flower with the extra petaloid. Not much white margin on this one.

Large Flower Mix plant # 03. This is really a deep color with the pattern like some of the others being shared recently. This mix came as "extras" in an order from a stateside seller in VA. The I. purpurea influence from the original cross definitely shows in the durability of the flower.

They are all so outstanding! I enjoyed the subtle halo in the pink tie dye JMG.

That Fuji Murasaki looks nice...put a couple seeds aside for me...

I think the degree of pigmentation dilution on the Tie Dye Pink can be both plant and flower specific...

Ron, both of the Tie Dye Pink plants bloomed again today. I'm thinking from this small sample, that the color, or intensity of the color is plant specific, however the color distribution pattern is what is mutable and varies from flower to flower. These pictures are from plant #02 which had multilpes today, one more heavily pigmented than the other. The mostly white bloom looks very much like the flower of plant # 01 both yesterday and today. The pink halo is definitely darker on plant #02 than on plant #01. This is only two days of observations though!

A third plant of the Large Flower Mix has bloomed. Very striking pattern and color. Some what similar to SOI but larger flowers and variegated foliage. I like it a lot.

Love the leaves and blue star in the last image, Arlan!
