my Orientals
I've been wanting to say that since I joined this forum :)
Some pictures of my new lily bulbs...all tagged and ready
Viqua, I believe that bulb is a goner. Dig it up an salvage the scales. You can propagate new bulbs from the scales.
That's too bad, viqar. It won't bloom this year, of course, but will most likely come back just fine next year.
Edited to add ~ That's a nice bunch of bulbs you have there. You're going to be busy!

I knew it would be no time before you'd be saying "my Orientals", lol. The bulbs look healthy and nice. Hope you enjoy a lovely and fragrant display!

I don't want to give you advice that might cause the loss of the bulb, so I'll just share what happened to me last year.
I had newly planted lilies and as the shoots emerged from the ground the deer and the rabbits ate them to the ground. There were about 20 bulbs that this happened to, I just figured the bulbs were goners. This spring when out spraying the now famous bunny and bambi buffet all but 1 of those lilies is up and very vigorous appearing. I'm not giving up on the 1 just yet cause it is still early.
I also had a pot of orienpet seedlings that got frosted to nothing last year. I was going to plant other flowers in the pot a couple of weeks later and noticed some green leaves. I waited and in a very short while it was obvious the remaining stem was producing bulblets and those were the leaves. I had 13 bulbs the size of walnuts in that pot to start and in the fall when I moved the bulbs to the garden I planted out about 30 walnut and larger sized bulbs. 3 of those bulbs had obtained the size of a 20cm bulb.
Once I saw the green appearing in the pot I made sure I fertilized that pot each time I watered with a very weak bloom booster type fertilizer.
I hope the bulb does survive for you but if you want to be extra sure to save it, then i would recommend lifting the bulb carefully so as not to disturb the stem roots and remove a few scales from the bottom of the bulb and then replant.
Moby,Neal, Lilyfan thanks for the advice...I dug out the bulb and took the scales off and planted them...now if everything goes well, I should have about 40 new lillies next year :)
