I have four chickens that need a new home. I've raised all but one from hatch. These are for pick-up only.
The first three are all from the same hen and roo. They are Jersey Giant/Silkie/Naked Neck/Black Star mix, but you'd never know it looking at them. The cockerel was hatched in the fall of last year, and is nearly as big as a Jersey, and is a beautifully barred. The two pullets were hatched early this year, and one is just now starting to lay. They both have the Silkie crest, and one is very friendly. They're kind of unusual looking, but very cute. All three are docile, but are kind of shy of handling.
The third is a little BB Red bantam cockerel that was given to me as a half-grown chick, thinking it was a pullet. ( Well, guess what? My other poor roo didn't get the woman of his dreams!) He's kind of the watchdog of my pens, being very alert to "danger", and is very protective of his group. He's tried to flog me, but he's never hurt me. I just gently punt him to the side. :-) Once caught, he doesn't put up a fight. I have no real use for him and would like to give him a home where he'll have some company his size. He's always been in the pen with standards.
A home needed for these
Oh Queen B , I wish I lived close to you! That BB is exactly what I've been looking for! Finding purebred BB's here where I am is nearly impossible.
Are there any Georgia threaders out there, with BB's ,interested in a sale or trade blanket?
oh, how close is shepherd?
what is a BB? i am ignorant, but learning ;-)
tf
BB is short for "black breasted", so if you hear reference to a BB Red, it means black-breasted red.
Shepherd is 60 miles northeast of Houston. If you're in zone 6, you must be way up in the panhandle, yes?
(I just checked, and you really are!! :-O)
Eufaula, OEG bantams are everywhere around here. I'm in a little rural town that still allows farm animals in the city, so people in subdivisions where they have large lots (an acre or more) usually have the standards, but in town where the neighborhoods are, people normally have bantams. It's kind of funny--"city" vs. "country" chickens. I've gone around to places where I know I saw them a few months back, looking for eggs or chicks, but they've seemed to gotten rid of them. I'm sure I'll come across more somewhere.
i hope you find a home for htem. you might considering putting a link to this thread in the Texas Gardening forum, there are LOTS of folks in your area on DG. also, i could put the word out at the Guinea message board where i am a sponsor... with your permission only. most guinea owners also have chickens...
Yes, please do...

it's a free forum... but you cannot post any email or links. once you are ready to contact someone, you do so through admin [link 12 at the top]. they would rather you didn't post phone numbers and such on the Message Board.
i hope this helps.

Thanks for posting Tamara, but I found someone willing to take all five through Freecycle. She's been looking for some for awhile, and was more than happy to have them. I feel they went to a good home.
good! i iwll go look at the other board, and tell them the good home was Found!
Tamara, do you have guineas? I ordered some and should get them next week. I was wondering if they really are pretty much self sufficient? I would like them to patrol my garden and pasture for insects. I have had a problem with hawks and owls. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Mike
Mike,
Hawks and owls LOVE guineas. Nothing but a good meal to them. We have lots of guineas, and they are great for insects, grasshoppers, and snakes. We used to have huge rattlesnacks take house in our front yard under a huge clump of oak trees, but no more - - - the guineas keep them ran off! They are great freerangers, I feed ours a coffee can full of game bird grower, for protein purposes only. I hope this helps a little. Feel free to dmail me if you have any guinea questions.

Good luck finding a home for the little cuties! I'd take them in a heartbeat if I lived closer to you. I'm looking for a bantie rooster for my poor lonely hens. I live outside Salem, Oregon, if anyone near me has any.
Thanks
This was way back in the spring. I did, however, find good homes for them not long afterward. Thanks for looking.
