I would love to know what kind of plant this is. It is like an ice plant, with crystals all over it. It is a ground cover. It was found growing in San Diego on a bank. Please help. It has not flowered yet.
Thanks Seth
I need help ID-ing this plant-weed
I'm not sure but it looks like a native Mesmebryanthemum (Aizoaceae) family member, possibly in the Aptenia genus. It is very common along the coast and if I've got the correct plant has a tendency to redden during the winter from cool weather. Check out some of the native coastal plant sites for the San Diego area like the Border Fields, Torrey Pines, or look up Coastal Sage Scrub habitat plants in San Diego county. Does it have a white flower?
The specimen you're showing looks like a really lush bit of Mesembryanthemum crystallinum
Also check the San Diego Natural Histroy Museum's botany page on native plants in this family.
good luck,
don
