Xanthosoma 'Lime Zinger'

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Anyone had luck growing this one to a large plant? I've tried this before but it was several years ago. I'd like to give it a go again- any sources? Thanks- Kristi

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Brent and Becky's Bulbs and Whiteflower Farms are about the least expensive for this one. I don't know what the postage would run you.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I can get a flat wholesale for about $2 bucks each and have really been considering it. It would not of course be a co-op, but I'd be happy to share a tray if several of us wanted them.

I have one doing fairly well as a houseplant but it's still not huge.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Michele I would be interested in about 5 or so.
datdog, the two I have have gotten to about 1 ft tall. I only got them last year. died back but were my first tropicals to peek out. mine are planted in ground, part sun, close to water hose.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I have an email in to see if they are still available. :)

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I've had one for a couple of years (unfortunately I killed it) and it only got to a little under 2' tall. They stay pretty small, don't they?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Terranova lists them at 36x48x12 (spread x height x flower ht in inches on a 2 yr old plant). Note says 4' or more.

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

I will throw my hat in the ring. I could use a few. They are hard to find in retail.

count me in, I could take 5-10. But I am confused lol...you are getting small t/c plants in cell packs or larger plants for $2/each? 4' high??? I must have this wrong-if not I'll take 100!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Nice pic Dale!

They are tc plants. Mature height is listed as above. Stop pulling my leg! LOL

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hey Chele- you of course know you can count me in just let me know what you need from me. I can take 10 or more if needed. Thanks so much-Kristi

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have this one, it gets HUGE. Give it lots of fertilize and water. Here they like a little shade in the afternoon.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I doubt I will get an answer on availability until Monday. I will call in the am if I have not heard from them by then. If you you get your call in really early, you can get a money off special. Someone wanna call and get me up at early O' thirty? LOL

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Any news Chele?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

No email yet. I'll call in a bit. I have a commercial account and I am wondering if my sales guy has tried to call me. We have one of those stupid IP phones and according to the website they are having problems since last night. It's just a busy signal if you try to call out.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I talked to my guy at Terranova bit ago. They don't have any Lime Zinger right now. They will again in June. I told him that might be too late and that I'd get back with him.

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

Another source-Agristarts.com in Apopka, FL. They are a tissue culture grower that is very big in the wholesale industry here in F-L-A. I am not a person they would normally deal with, but, I will send them an email and see what the response is. I will be over in Orlando, at EPCOT this week end.

I am running out of new photos and my batteries are dead in the digital....

According to Agristarts availibility sheet, they are out of them. I can email my contact there and check.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Chele let me know how this comes along.
I'll give you a hand also.

Ric

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Give me a hand? What? You gonna clap?? LOL

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Hey if that works instead of cash..........lol

Ric

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I didn't know you wanted to give me money. LOL I'll take money.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Dale which one is the lime zinger. I don't think I have ever seen one, I checked out google and they showed a EE.

Chele if you find one you can count me in on it as well. I like different kinds of plants.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

2pug,
It is Xanthosoma maffafa aurea, an EE..
Actually called Golden Delicious' in Plantfiles.
Agri-starts calls it Lime Zinger.

Now that I look, I don't see one in Dale's pic. It was just a nice addition to his post. ;)

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

That was why I asked him because I looked it up and didn't see anything in his pot that looked like what I found.

Dale your pot full of plants are very nice to look at. I can't wait until summer here is really going so I can start enjoying some flowers in the yard.

The weather man was predicting frost for last night. Everything was back in the GH, all tomatoes were covered. Guess what, thank goodness he was wrong, we didn't have the frost.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I went ahead and ran the heater in the hoophouse last night. I probably could have skipped it but the tropicals sure are happy. LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I just got an email through B&B and can get them for $4.38 each after discount. It would be 50 for $219 before shipping. These are 4 inch pots.

Terranova did say they'd have them in June.

I'm still looking at other suppliers.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I'm still interested....just LMK if you decide to do this.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

I am to, just us all posted.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I think I have us at 6 people? 8 ears each? We can adjust for more or less depending on who wants how many and I'll buy the odds. And yes, only those of us involved splitting them. I think Brugie and Calalily were just offering info. Correct me if I am wrong. Is the price still worthwhile to justify you guys paying shipping twice?

not for me, Michele. At $2 each yes, but no higher. I do understand pricing is adjusted for peak demand season but I would personally wait for off-season pricing.

Mine have returned. presently about 10" high. Yesterday I "messengered" the heck out of them, lol.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Well I'm out too Chele sorry.
I picked up a nice 1+ gallon pot batch at the Cincy Show for 6.99.
I'd say there are 3 pups in addition to the Mother plant.

Keep me in there. I don't know what I will do with 7, maybe you could start a new thread and tell others you are thinking about doing this and maybe we would have some more takers.

And you didn't buy us any because.........??? Now you get the ugly tadpoles!

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

LOL!
I got the Zinger at a deal price.
I also bought a Cyperus papyrus (so I will be able to replenish yours) and a dwarf Cyperus p.
All were the last ones he had.

Bad Seed (is the such a things as),

If you need another person to buy some of them I will kick in $50-75 to help the process along, and I will pay for postage in addition. They are hard to find and make dandy gifts too.

Chele I'm still in if your up for it. Just let me know. Dale that is a beautiful picture.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I'm still in!

Louisville, KY

Xanthosoma lime zinger or what ever you wish to call it is actually a flava form of Robusta. A bit slower in some cases but if allowed to root in can get very large.
