My first fantasy Strep bloomed!

(Zone 7b)

I just think this is drop-dead gorgeous:

(Zone 7b)

Might help if I added the picture, huh? This is Party Girl, and I have another one called Pajama Party, that's supposed to be pink fantasy, but that one shows no sign of buds yet....

I'm so impatient!

Congratulations ! Gorgous :)) Love it ! Thanks for sharing :))

Oh my goodness! Party Girl is gorgeous! Congratulations!

(Zone 7b)

Allison, or anyone, can I just transplant this whole bunch of babies to a bigger pot, and leave them together, so I get a clump of blooms?

Or would they be happier seperated?

One peeking out from the back of the leaf, too:

Well I let mine babies get pretty tall . sometimes as tall as Mom . lol One leaf is a plantlet good for sellers I guess. But I like and find it easier to keep them together. Yes the more leaves the more flowers ! You can do what ever way you like !

(Zone 7b)

Allison, that's a hoot, as it was sold to me as a red one! Oh well, my DH says I've never met a flower that I didn't like, so....

How about "Ruby?" I'm assuming that one is red, too? Please please?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Nice babies !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ruby the BEST red to date :))
Ruby
(Dibley hybrid) The best red to date. Beautiful rich red flowers, freely born, forming a nice head on a medium sized plant. (AGGS register)

(Zone 7b)

Just googled "Kim" - that's gorgeous too, I'd be just as happy with that colour, but I do have it written down as red - could just as easily be my mistake, as I do have the odd airhead moment...that would have been a surprise when it bloomed, eh?:))

(Zone 7b)

Allison, that Ruby sounds so good - who writes these descriptions, so that every single one makes you think "I gotta have THAT!"

I have Ruby. It is drop dead gorgeous red.

Allison, i think I sent you leaves from it? O have I forgotten?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm not sure if I got Ruby ? You sure find Special Streps Anna :)) I have several Strep leaves from you and Laurie with babies !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Anna, you sent me Ruby. I have it in the perlite tray cut in half the long way so hopefully I'll get many pups from it. The last one I did was noid, looks like Ogalvee Cassandra and it gave me like 18 pups.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Allison, I will send you some leaves next week.

Laurie, have you received my dmail about cloning? I had difficulty in sending it so I am not sure if you got it.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anna you are too good to me :)) Thank you !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

anna, I wasn't online all day yesterday since I had my monthly AVSA meeting and then since i was in San Fran I decided to head over the the arboretum greenhouses to play for the rest of the day. I took inventory of all the plants in my department and divided a Chirita 'Hisako' that was so neglected it hadn't been touched since 2002! (all the tags in the pots require dates when you do anything to them, fertilize, pot up or pot down, divide etc.) So I got four babies and divided the two crowns on the mom and repotted into cutie pans. Poor thing didn't stand a chance.

I asked the director before I divided it if it was ok, and much to my astonishment, he said "Laurie, you have carte blance to do what ever you want with the plants in your department'. I think I grinned the biggest grin of my life! It's nice to have the confidence of someone who is such a plant genius!

So happy me, I cleaned up dead leaves and propagated some streps. One with an intriguing name, 'Black Gardenia'! http://www.streptocarpus-info.com/strepimages/Black_Gardenia.jpg
We have some VERY nice species streps too. there's one strep with a noid tag that has leaves that are at least 12" long and 8" wide! Wish I knew who it was. Maybe King of Kings? (isn't there one named that?)

I brought home a leaf of s. formosus to lay down in the tray. I broke it off by mistake and so I'll try and get a pup from it.

Anyhoo, Anna, I'm just now getting to email etc.

Lilburn, GA

Wow Laurie, very soon you will be the boss there. They really trust you!

What is the AVSA meeting?

I never heard of king of the kings. Is it Dibbleys?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

The AVSA meeting is the African Violet Society meeting - our local SFO chapter.
We discussed hybridizing (YEA!) and then had a mini show. I entered one of my newer violets and won third place. (out of three plants entered!! he he he) I guess it's ok to come in last!

I googled King of Kings and I don't think it's a dibleys. http://www.streptocarpus-info.com/tablek.html

Lilburn, GA

Congratulations on your third place! Did you get a ribbon?

King of th ekings is beautiful!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

King's of King's os by Ford and Fragrant too :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

No, I didn't get a ribbon, BUT 3rd place get's $2 so I got a check for $2 which will pay for the leaves I bought.
Blushing Ivory and Clementine Rhapsody? or something like that.
seemed to me that Rhapsody was an Optimara so I figured I would get it in case someone here wants babies from the leaves.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Rhapsody are nice . I grew Rhapsody Clementine by leaf and sent her to April it was on her wish list !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

oh? cool. do you have the FC info on it? The little flower that came with the leaves look a bit whithered up, but was purple if I recall.
Are the Rhapsodies from Optimara?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Rhapsodie Clementine (8341) 12/14/1995 (Holtkamp) Single light blue ruffled star. Dark green, pointed, serrated/red back. Standard

Yes Rhapsodie is a real nice series of Optimaras !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Blushing Ivory is really pretty too !

Blushing Ivory (7942) 10/08/1993 (S. Sorano) Single ivory star/wide rose-orchid sparkle edge. Dark green, pointed, quilted, scalloped. Standard

Sounds like you have a fun group !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

It is a great group! I also got Louisiana Lullaby plant for $2 but I was confussed and was thinking it was Louisiana Lagniappe http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/LouisianaLagniappeLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/LouisianaLagniappeLrg.jpg# , but now I looked at the photo on the AVSA site and I kinda like it! http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/LouisianaLullabyLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/LouisianaLullabyLrg.jpg#

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Why do you not think it looks like Louisiana Lullaby ?? If labled this ?

It's labeled L. lullaby. But I had my wires crossed in my brain, so I thought it was the other one. I do like it! and it's a good sized plant, as big or bigger than Bluebirds plants.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW that's nice ! Did you get the plant at your group ?
