Continued from , uhhhhhhh, wait a minute, I have to go fetch it. BRBhttp://davesgarden.com/forums/t/593516/#new,
Yup that's it. Who's first this morning??
Coffee and...for Thursday, April 20
Well it ain't morning yet, but thought I would use all this blank space!!
JULIE, HIYA!!, sure do miss you here, drop in more often.
Sarv, I am so proud of you, got the dahlias planted, and marked too.
Viann, what a side show the bat must have been. I know that they are harmless, but they are creepy looking, and I can't help my adversion to them. When I was a child, one flew into my head and got tangled in my hair, and with adults who were trying to free it, it still seemed an eternity.
Well, I had a good chat with 101 this afternoon after getting home from having lunch with the neighbor. I was all set to eat the most luscious chocolate dessert that was on the menu, and the only thing that they offered, after I asked was vanilla ice cream with chocolate canned syrup. I declined. If I am gonna be bad, I want something better than that!!
Well, I am off to check some other forums before bed. They are installing carpet at my DM's tomorrow, and I have gathered some family members to help move furniture, as the company wanted an enormous amount to do that. It will probably be more waiting than actual work. So it may be a long day.
Hope you all have a good restful night, and good day tomorrow, I will check in when I am able.
Night all.
Defoe, you'll be glad you moved the furniture yourself. When I had new carpet installed ... we were so busy inspecting the carpet job that we didn't inspect the furniture. Of course ... they make you sign a paper before they leave the propity. It wasn't until a week or so later that I noticed my wood table and chairs had been damaged. Two of the chairs have places and the finish on the table has scratches. Of course nothing would be done. :-(
Hey 101, I am very capable of damaging the furniture myself, I don't have to pay someone to do it for me!! We are having carpet put in three rooms, and that means we clear the furniture out of one room, then when they are finished, move it back, and clear out another room. It will be an all day job, but will be so glad when it is done.
As I type, DH is standing at the sink filleting the fish he caught today, over 80. Can anybody say that this hobby is INSANE? I really need all of you to descend on this house and enjoy a fish fry, I can't afford to buy another freezer just for fish, and where am I gonna put all my garden stuff?
Well, I really am off to bed. I had such a wonderful night last night, I think it is too much to ask for a repeat, but I am hoping.
Night All.
I have a freezer too, and can you say shipping and dry ice?
:^))))
I'm first in the morning - should NOT be here, can't be late for work but couldn't resist being first in the morning. ha ha! small pleasures, small mind?
Dianne, thanks for the kind words a few days ago. U made my day!!
Hi to everyone, have a wonderful day, I read everything yesterday but no time to reply. Run, Laura Run! ~~~~~~~
good morning -how about some fish for breakfast??? You know me - anything goes. We had tilapia one night this week -it was good. Shrimp/garlic last night...yummm
I am thinking about new carpet....maybe next year. When we do it we do the whole lower level- it is all done in the same stuff and I like it that way. The family room gets a ton of use/wear, but the bedrooms are still like new. I've never had it shampooed...it is probably filthy, but still looks nice..Is shampooing really worth it? I've heard that once you do it, it gets dirtier quicker... We all take our shoes off, but.....oh probably never told you this one. We had the new carpeting put in on a Fri, DH and I went away for the weekend and came home to find DS hosted a wild party. Found out later that one kid whizzed in the corner....how do you say "I hate teenagers...."
Bal for heavens sakes, ask for some help - we don't want you flat on your kisser and in pain!! Oh, lucky you, a new toy!!! I think I need something new....
Vi - yuck - bats....hate those things- They look so evil. We have them in our barn and several times they have fallen when we open up the big doors. I'm outta there pronto. I think I would have had a heart attack if one landed in my hair!!
Julie- get your buns back in here and tell us what you've been up too. Long time no see....
Clouds are rolling in here today and the cool weather is returning. It was gorgeous yesterday and we got a lot done. Weather girl said it is supposed to be warm here again - 70's. (she has a poor record tho) It is so dry . I spent a couple of hours lugging water to hellebores (first time blooming and gorgeous!)
I do need to pot up some more dahila tubers..
Waving to everyone- have a great one!
Good morning,
Here I am up earlier than usual and I thought evryone else was too. Then I find all but one of you posted last night!
Looks like another GLORIOUS day here. They expect temps of 23 degrees - that's T-shirt weather, not just shirt sleeves. but they are calling for rain on the weekend. We need it, but I hope it's just showers as I have work to do in the yard.
Bonnie, hope the carpet install goes well. What type and color of carpet is going in? Wish you could send some fish this way. Is the fishing done for now?
Have a good day everyone.
Ann
Sarv - go for steam cleaning. Yes, it's worth it. I generally get mine done figuring that the truck mounted machines are more powerful, but if you rent a machine, you'll be appalled at how dirty the water is that the machine sucks up. All that dirt can wear your carpet faster and I'm sure there are thousands of dust mites too.
Ann
Robert, stove sounds like a dream! Please post a photo!!!! ('Course, I'd prefer the Wolf too, like you and M5.)
I see you early birds!! I've been up, but catching up on other threads. I always save Coffee for last, like dessert!
And speaking of dessert....What a disappointment, Dcat, no good chocolate desserts! Bummer! I feel like you do, if I'm going to indulge I want better stuff than canned chocolate syrup. I feel that way about restaurant bread baskets too, not wasting tummy space on bread when eating out,.
We did a massive over indulgence the other night. There's a new sports bar/restaurant up the road a bit, and they had posted an "All You Can Eat Crab" sign. I called them, and it was $21.95 per person. I thought, for $40 bucks I can buy a whole lot of crab, so I did. Now I've got leftover crab for crab cakes, crab salad, and who knows what. And we didn't have to tip anyone!
Sarv, I second the steam cleaning....it's not really steam, just very hot water. Our best experience has been with Stanley Steemer, they extract almost all of the water and leave your carpet dry enough to walk on . It's worth a shot, if you plan to wait to install new in a couple years. It's amazing how much dirt is in there that you can't see. If we ever replace our carpeting, it will be with hard wood and area rugs in the big traffic areas. Bedrooms don't get as dirty,
Took down our bedroom curtains yesterday and threw them in the washer. I realized that the outer ones I got at Penney's Warehouse, at least 13 years old, and they still come out like new. They are off- white, and with two smokers in the house, they get just "awful" . When all the houses were under construction here, they got dirty just from the dust blowing in.
Wasn't it nice to see Julie drop in for a quick visit? We need you to keep us posted on what's doing, Julie, after all you started this!
And Robert,we need a picture of the fountain, too! You are like all guys, gotta do it yourself or bust. Just be careful, takes us longer to heal up these days when we over do.
Better get busy, ~~~~ to all, getting hard to keep up with all the names! I do read everything, so even if I don't comment directly to you, keep in mind, I am keeping up! Was really foggy this morning,but it's clearing up now. I need to scope out a place to put those three EEs I picked up, and do some weed damage today, so I'm hoping it warms up..
DH is in the shower already, so I better go refill my cup before he's out the door and there isn't any more coffee.
Later
Sheila
Morning all, I tired to post a short novel yesterday, responding to everyone about everything and it went, poof, off into cyber heaven so I'll keep this one short.
Got everything done yesterday except for the mulch and have discovered I am a wee bit outa shape going to have some Iburoprophan with breakfast. Now since chat is down I guess I'll finish the ironing and get the dishes done untill it gets light and start again.
Have a great day everyone and I'll check in at lunch, if I am still alive.....Lauri
Lauri,
I'm with ya girl on those sore muscles thing. I'm a house painter, but gardening does not use the same muscles. We have been working on a project of putting in 19 rows of dayliles. My glutes are sore as all getout from all the bending over and I wake up at night with aching legs just from laying on them.
I think I need to get that ibuprophin bottle and put it close to using space.
4 more rows today and we are done with that part. All else is sitting there waiting until this project is done.
And the carpet has a good layer of dog fur on it. Where's my cleaning lady!!!!!! That can wait too. I am NOT a wife to my house, nor to anything else. Bonnie speaking of nice fella, if I had one of those, I would have to be cooking, cleaning and neglecting all my projects and this computer to keep him happy. Too much effort. I have enough to do already.
It's overcast right now. Great time to get out there.
Molly
:^)))
Morning everyone! I got up early for Chat, and Chat is down. :(
Not much going on here today except maybe to go and look at a used pop-up camper my sister wants to buy. Went to Radio Shack yesterday and got a longer Cat5 cable to network her new laptop computer with her desktop and my Mac. I hate the tiny patch for moving the cursor around but we need to get accustomed to it before we travel this summer looking for a place to buy.
Bonnie, too bad your DH doesn't fish for wild salmon. I'd sure buy some! (Haven't repaired my freezer door yet but the packing tape holding it tight seems to work fine.)
Hi to everyone else. Haven't the energy to address all the posts, LOL.
Good Morning Darius, Doesn't that laptop have a mouse hookup? Most do. Much easier that the other way.
Good luck on finding the camper.
Molly
:^)))
Hi all
Well can you believe it? I'm up and *talking*! I know ... it's amazing. I've had coffee and watered the plants already. *grin* We did the messenger on the plants last night so decided to get up early this morning to water instead of feeding the mosquitoes last night. I usually like to water real late before I go to bed as I looove sleeping in.
Sarv, I go for the steam cleaning also ... but confess to having one of my own carpet cleaners as the pooch went through a time of barfing on the carpet right after it was new. Thought she was going to ruin it. Threatened to send her away ... of course I was teasing. Anyway, it saved the carpet. :)
Lauri, I had several posts to go to poof heaven yesterday also. Saw where Dave was working on things but didn't know that until late. :) Anyway hope you have a nice day today ... and maybe we'll both have better luck.
Meezers, we both think alike when it comes to crab. I'm a pig and can shurely eat my weight in crab legs and haven't found anyone that can fix them to suit me. The DH can sure do a mighty fine job. For $30 or $35, I can do a lot of damage! LOL
Ann, you call 23 degrees T shirt weather? Brrrr! I freeze at 50! LOL Yuck at the bats! That was something they were able to pull that performance off. I'd have run screaming outta there!
Well, who in the world mentioned washing curtains? Uggg, Meezers, was that you? Why did you have to say that! I haven't washed mine in *ever* so long. Guess since I'm up early for a change I'll go do something constructive. I also have a new recipe I'm wanting to try and need to marinate the chicken ahead. Anyone ever made Saffron Chicken? It really sounds wonderful.
Okay, waving at everyone I've missed.
~~~Elaine
Morning Molly and Darius...Molly you are going to have the most beautiful DL patch when they all bloom. I can hardly wait for the pictures. LOL I am a wife but have carefully trained my DH to find the vac and use it. He is already a great cook and will even do laundry. Yes I am soooo spoiled :)..
Darius, good luck on finding your camper....
Lauri
Molly, yes there is a mouse port, and we are using a new optical mouse. But for travelling, we need to get accustomed to the pad (or whatever it's called). It has built-in wireless so we can just drive near a hotel to log on the internet.
I remember washing curtains with my grandmother. We'd stretch them on a wooden frame that had rows of tiny nails to poke through the fabric. Never have liked curtains since then!
Good morning to all! Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and I hope you are all going to have a super day.
I have a ridiculously long "to do" list, but, since I have to stay home for a few days, I should get a good bit of it knocked out.
We called our power company about taking out a few trees anong the power line for safety reasons, (but also to open up some planting area for me). Right now the sides of the drive don't get quite enough sun for the roses to do well. They are also supposed to put up a new pole to relieve a major sag in the line. We have the heaviest line they use running a 93 foot span from the last existing pole, which is leaning, to the power head, which is about ready to take the roof off, and the strain is bad news! Plus the leaning pole has a transformer on it. If that sucker goes, it will get quite exciting around here! So a new pole will solve all the problems.
Hopefully, all this will happen very soon, and life can go on from there. I do *not* want them out here cutting without keeping an eye on them, so I'm stuck here for now.
Meanwhile, work continues on the butterfly garden, the rain forrest and the chicken yard. I cleaned out my Hydrangea bed and put in some fertilizer, aluminum sulfate and gave them a good drink. I found one bud just starting, so am looking forward to seeing them come into bloom. One of them is a cutting from my grandmother's yard. My brother was able to move it when the house was sold, and brought me the cutting last year.
Enough rambling for now. I best get onto that list.
Good day to you all
ginni
Yep, fennel in my green beans, fennel in my soup, pork roast. I love bronze fennel and will put it in anything except banana pudding.
Molly
:^)))
LOL chat is open finally and I'm sitting there gabbing to myself, which is nothing new, I win more arguements that way.....I'll have to try fennel in my green beans. Never had it....Lauri
Rats! I was in Chat (finally) and thought I got booted. Turns out my sister was outside digging a hole to plant a bougainvilla and CUT THE CABLE! We have fixed a temp. splice since the cable folks won't be here until tomorrow.
dARIUS WE WONDERED WHERE YOU WENT
Hi All,
Just checking in quick while I'm enjoying my after lunch smoke,,,LOL
Ummmm, Freezer here too,,,and just about empty at that,,,,Someone (Bill) didn't make sure the door was all the way closed and we lost a ton of stuff. So, I've got all kinds of room for fish or anything else for that matter,,,LOL
dcat,
Ahhh, new carpeting,,,such a pain but so nice when it's done. I agree,,,better be something better than ice cream with Canned syrup,,,although,,,in a pinch, with nothing else available that would do,,LOL
darius,
Don't know what a Wolf stove is, but if you'd like one, knowing how you love to cook and having heard what a great cook you are,,,I Know it would be way out of my league,,,LOL I Hate to cook, therefor don't pay much attention when I am cooking,,,usually the smoke detector in the salon (right off of the kitchen and Very touchy) goes off and Bill hollers, "Dinner must be ready",,,,Always tell him, "You're invited to do the cooking from now on,,,or go to your moms" hasn't worked yet,,,,darn it anyway. Used to have a Touch Pad for the puter instead of a mouse,,,,I liked it, Bill hated it. Sold it on e-bay. Good luck with the camper.
Ann,
I have rented those Rug Doctor carpet cleaners,,,they don't leave the carpet really dry, but work o.k. Would love to have it professionally done one of these years,,,enjoy that nice weather.
ginni,
ooo, good luck with the power line,,,sounds like it's a must,,,watch thos eguys,,,I don't think any of them have wives that garden or they'd know don't mess with a woman's gardens!!!!!!
M5,
oooo, the Crab sounds wonderful. Would Love wood floors here too, but I'm too lazy to dust them that often,,,they'd have an inch of dust on them all the time,,,
laurie,
Ah yes,,,the gardening muscles,,,,Ibuprofen's my best friend in Spring,,,and plent of it,,,LOL Also,,,LOL @ the chatting with yoursef and winning more arguements.
Molly,
Can't wait to see all those beauties blooming.
Well, customer late, but finally here gotta go
Kelly
Jeremy and I finished putting the daylilies in the ground. It is SO HOT outside. Darius you should be glad you aren't here anymore..........wait, it's hotter where you are. Oops. And maybe you shouldn't be in such a hurry to get your sister into gardening.
Jeremy, nearly cut the phone cable when he dug by the pond to put the last bog bottle in. Funny, out here where there isn't much of anything, he didn't expect a cable underground. And he was here the day they ran and buried the thing. heeheehee
I'm going out to take a picture of the daylily field. There is one flower blooming today and it is huge. and 8" bloom.
I had a hardy lily put it's first bloom out in the pond this morning but didn't get out to take a picture yet. Just looked and it's closed already.
Here we go. Now lunch time for me. Left over in the freezer, beef barley soup. I added, from the garden, scallions, fennel, tyme, sage, basil. Then carrots and celery. Will have this with a little flour tortilla.
Molly
Hello everyone - back from my mom's!! Phew what a day. She called me in a panic asking where I was - I was at Kohl's returning stuff -gotta run all my errands in one day on account of the dastardly high gas prices. Went to their condo and she had piles of paper all over the house - bedroom, kitchen,livingroom....what a mess. I made her sit by each pile and tell me what it was, whether it was in her trust and the account numbers. We made great headway and she was visibly relieved when I got everything done. She is a worrier (hmmm, who do I take after??) Now I am going to type everything up for her and keep copies for my bro and sis. Now we know how much she has and where it is. It gives her comfort that we know where everything is.
Molly - blow hard and send some warm air up here!! It has been nice here, flirting with some rain and man do we need it!! LOL, I laugh about you and 'men' - when mine kicks the dust I only want one around to do the heavy stuff!! And I think I could hire one for that!! I handle everything around here myself - except buying vehicles and I think I could do that if forced to! I'm jealous of all your day lilies....gonna do a co-op on DG with all you have?
I don't like canned choco either - just cracked into a pkg of oreos....they'll do in a pinch. I won't even tell you how many I've had (I'd have to lie because it is so many!!) Frozen oreos are the best. I bought them for my DGS and we never ate them, so I was forced to open them myself.
Ok, steam cleaning it will be. My brother's step daughter works for them - she is a major loser.....that does give me second thoughts about calling them tho!! My mom has a man do hers- a family business. Think I will give him my business. Maybe it is all those nasty mites causing my allergies to act up so...never thought of that!
Well, time to think about din din...never made it to chat- tried to, but it wasn't working. darn...
Ho folks,
Dropping in for a few minutes before dinner and handbells.I'll try to catch up.
Sheila - if you had recent construction, and if you have forced air heating, you might want to have your heating ducts cleaned. All sorts of stuff collects in them. But get a company that does just that rather than Sears or similar.
Lauri - sorry about the lost post. Ever notice it's only the LONG ones that go POOF!?
Molly and Lauri - I'm not sure that anything uses all the muscles that gardening does. I do Aquafit three times a week which theoretically uses all the muscles. Ha! I also could fell others after spending much of last weekend in the garden.
Elaine - don't forget Canada is a metric country. 23 degrees is warmer than house temp. 30 degrees is HOT.
I have some curtains I've had for 35 years. Probably haven't washed them in at least 10. Hmmm.... think they'd survive?
Darius - good luck piggy backing on wireless. A lot of those hotels have required passwords. DSIL had his laptop along when we were out west last September but he often couldn't tap into the local wireless.
tgif - hope the power company resolves you pole problems soon.
Actually made it to the bottom. And it's time to be cracking on dinner if I want to be out of here for 5:30-5:40. Also gotta go find a T-shirt. The CE Hall where the bells practice is rather warm.
Ann
Hooboy, played outside, assassinated weeds, bought some landscaping fabric, washed some more curtains, have to dry them and put them back up. Ann, we had our duct work cleaned last fall, so all the dirt that's in here now is ours. Guy even cleaned out the dryer duct. What on earth are builders thinking, putting a dryer vent in between the walls? They could have gone out through the wall to the garage, vented from there, and then to the outside.
Really warm today. DH came home after lunch and has been running around outsie doing hoses, etc. He'll be burnt tonight. Mr. Never Heard of Sunscreen. There goes two big leaves off the aloe.
I can't wait to see Molly's lilies when they start blooming! Won't that be a sight?
Sarv, if the carpet cleaners have done a good job for your mom, and they don't leave it sopping wet, I'd go with them.
I popped in here to look up a recipe, and look where I ended up. Some people are just so easily distracted....................LOL
S.
Pooh, didn't get the pop-up today. Will try again in a week and see how hungry he really is... plus look elsewhere.
Hot today, 93º, no changes nor rain in sight.
Finally got a DR's appt. in Asheville May 3rd. CT Scan earlier that day for comparison to the last 2. So, we will leave here the Friday befrore, stay overnight somewhere in GA, then to Bud's house in NC. Will need an overnight somewhere on the way home but have no clue where since we are going on to SW VA to check out that area after my scan.
Hello neighbors, nobody within walking distance however and even for out here in the wide open spaces you are all just too far away.
Molly, the daylily plantation looks great. I would say you definitely will be in the business soon. I hope they all bloom this year for you. What's the plan, mail order?
Today is beautiful and I've just rototilled about 1/3 of my big vegie garden with the faithful ole Troybuilt tiller. We bought it in '82, so it is almost a quarter of a century old and always starts on the first or second pull of the starter rope. The soil at the top of the garden (on a slope) is just a little bit wet but doesn't stick to the tines, and at the bottom where there is less clay it is perfect. Meanwhile, a neighbor is discing a big field just across our east fence, probably 40-50 acres, and another neighbor is doing the same just up the hill and across the county road. Today anyhow, it's spring.
My sister came over this morning, she called this morning saying she was going to come to town today and wanted to find out if I would be home before making an additional 40 mile round trip out here. She lives across some mountains in another valley 40 miles the other side of town, so to come here it's 120 mile round trip. Now that you are thoroughly confused...... She hadn't seen AmandaPanda since before Chirstmas when she gave her to me when there was only 3# of kitty, AP was in a playful mood so we got entertainment while we visited. Sis said the lady who gave the kitty to her was wondering how she is doing.
Tomorrow I'll be leaving to go to a ride in Idaho, back on Sunday. It's a short week at home with rides 2 weekends in a row. My teammates won't be there, they live too far in the other direction to go that far for a one day event. I'm hoping for good weather, the forecast says rain showers on Friday night and only a 30% chance of showers on Saturday. I've been caught in some really nasty weather at that ride a couple of times, other times it has been just beautiful. The forecast for Boise doesn't tell the whole story because the ride is in the foothills of the Boise front range, weather in mountains can be quite different from what they get in the valley just 20 miles away.
Hubby is making a business trip to the Salem area (south of Portland). He left this morning and will be home tomorrow night. I will be leaving about noon and return on Sunday. So, tonight I don't have to cook dinner and can play outside until dark. Woopeee! Back to the garden. ~~~~ to everyone.
~~~~ to everyone. Been out all day planting a few ...54 flowers and some vegis. Killed a bunch of weeds and found a new muscle... pulled my left hiney cheek one. LOL to be this outa shape this late in the season is not good, but (no pun intended) must keep moving still have over 80 to go. Must make more sweet tea and go.....will catch up and comment later...Lauri
Lauri,
I had to come it for dinner and now it's dark. Guess you still have daytime there.
We finished our daylily plantings, got some watering done and potted some seedlings up to bigger pots. I was able to plant 3 in the ground. Yep Mary, internet/mail order on the daylilies.
We quit working today at 11:30 and didn't go back outside until after 5. It was so hot. And it's only April. Guess I'll need to get a pool if we are going to make it through the summer.
Now tomorrow I get out to the veggie garden to thin some carrots, arugula and radishes.
Still got 2 truckloads of green mulch sitting down by the driveway. I don't mind looking at it. That activity doesn't make ya sweat.
Molly
:^)))
Hi all,
Just checking in ---- yup, I'm still alive (and feeling a bit more like it, though this rotten bug is still reluctant to completely leave).
My "glutton for punishment" DH insisted on working at my store yesterday despite the fact that he'd worked at his own job until 2 AM that morning. I used part of the extra day off to do a bit more clean-up of various flower and herb beds and to get a new load of compost started in the tumbler. Also transplanted some seedlings from the starter trays into peat pots.
Bonnie, 80 fish?! Well, as long as you've got the freezer space, I'd say you're LUCKY. Have you seen the prices on fish in the supermarket lately? Most of it is more expensive than steak these days. Good luck with the carpets.
Molly, your daylilly farm is looking good. Hope it's a really successful venture for you. I'm sure it will be a gorgeous sight when they all get to blooming.
Julie, nice to get a visit from our founder! I hope you don't mind that there are so many of us latecomers about these days.
101, loved the doggie birthday party pics. I must say that Kota looked a lot more enthusiastic about the cake than she did about her party hat. Your first tomato may only be a dinky little thing now, but it's still the FIRST one and ought to be celebrated, I think. I know I'm always thrilled to see my plants start setting fruit. It'll be quite awhile before that happens in this neck of the woods, I'm afraid.
Mary, good luck on the ride --- hope the weather cooperates this time. Thanks for yesterday's pic of AP. Looks like she's still enjoying her MTV.
darius, hope you get the camper on the next try. If the hotel wireless idea doesn't work out, you might be able to find other hot spots where they don't charge a lot. There's a little breakfast greasy spoon in a strip mall not far from here that's been advertising their wireless access. I haven't gone in to check, but can't believe they could get away with charging much, if anything, extra for it.
tgif---- hope the tree-cutting went well.
sarv, good for you for getting your mother's papers sorted out. I should try to do that here as I'm the one who will be stuck trying to sort it out after my mother is gone. Somehow, we just never seem to get to it.
Vi-ann and lauriwilson, geez, slow down a little, will you? You're making me tired already.
~~~~~~~~to GG, Blooms, M5, kooger, and anyone else I might have missed. I'm off to spend some time with DH. He's home tonight for a change. We've gone from having way too much time together to hardly any time at all due to his crazy work schedule. It changes every week and he's often at work from 6 PM to 2 AM and other lovely hours like that.
Have a wonderful night everyone.
How so? It worked for me last night, and this morning. Your link took me to the Friday as well.
