Crepe help please

I bought a red rocket crepe last Summer and LOVE it...it is just little maybe 3-4 feet tall...It is just now putting on new leaves (very few) and has a bunch of the little new shoots coming up out of the ground! Can I somehow get to these and pot them up?? or do you just cut them off at the ground?

They are probably suckers and I would not try to dig them up. That may damage the roots of the plant. They should be pruned off if you want a tree form rather than shrub form. If any of them are woody you can try to root them using rooting hormone. Crape myrtles usually take root easily.

I would love to try and root them...and I also have another branch that is growing weird and I dont like the way it is going to be overlapping another one. This is one of the main branches would it be OK to cut this guy off anf try to root it to start its own tree??

And walk me through step by step the best way to root this please. I am new to all of this stuff. Whats the best type of rooting hormone? do I dip it in there then plant in soil? or dip it then put it in water to grow roots?

Sorry if i am full of questions.....

I think I used Shultz rooting hormone. Just take your cutting (about 4 inches) and wet it and dip it in the powder. I used regular potting soil for mine. Make sure to keep the soil moist and not let it dry out, some people put glass jars or plastic bags over them. I removed all but two leaves from my cuttings, it helps conserve what moisture they do have. Oh, and keep it out of the sun.
