I am looking at a design for a friend's garden (in chicago) and one of the trees is called Sulivan cypress. I can't find it anywhere and have never heard of it. Is this a good tree...bad tree...or no tree? It seems to be a rather standard and boring design with Blue Princess Holly..Korean spice viburnum..one Jap. maple, (naturally) and keeping the "exisitng" euonymous! Also a runyan yew..never heard of that either. thanks...Nancy
Sulivan cypress??
It's Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana ‘Sullivan.’
Google that name, and you'll find a few online sources.
Here's a description:
"A super hardy selection of "Oregon Cedar" with a narrow pyramidal habit reaching 12'. The attractive foliage has weeping tips reminiscent of Eastern Hemlock. Very shade tolerant or can be grown in full sun."
Thank you very much
Is this in the actual city of Chicago? Japanese maples are a crapshoot anywhere outside the lake-tempered confines of the city.
It is in wilmette...about 45 min. outside of Chicago..near the lake.
