I have a potentilla - not sure of the exact variety - I've always called it a Lemon Drop potentilla - it's the common one with the bright yellow flowers. I'm wondering if I can hard prune it nearly to the ground and if so, will it come back? It's gotten a little out of control and I'd like to start over and put some kind of a cage or support around it and let it grow through that and stand up a little taller. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Pruning a Potentilla???
That's what I did to my peony bush, it was fine. I googled potentilla, and it said to prune one third out only. Sorry I'm not more help. ;-)
Thanks, PrairieGirl. I googled it also, before this post, but didn't find anything on pruning. Linda
Potentilla can't be pruned as hard as spirea. They don't respond as fast, so take a few years to get it back to the size you want it.
