Cercis mexicana

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

This is one of our favorite small trees. Spring color is pretty nice and the foliage isn't as huge as 'Forest Pansy' or canadensis/occidentalis hybrids but it is tolerant of less humidity and more heat than most Redbuds. Anyone looking for a fun, smaller flowering tree should give this one some consideration.

best to all,

This variety seems hard to find. It may be a better choice for people in the deep south who plant them in full sun.

hiya escambiaguy,

I did have to special order the one that I got, but it was a stock item for the grower. I'm sure it would probably appreciate the higher humidity of the 'deep south', and if it takes four hours of our merciless desert sun, the sun in the south combined with greater humidity would probably get it growing much faster there. And the acidic soils will probably color up the plants more effectively as it does have a tendency toward chlorosis in our alkaline soils. But with little help it is a very nice plant for us.

best,
don
