This is what I see looking out my home office window--I love my job!

BEAUTIFUL- What is it?

Hi Kevin,

Isn't it sweet to be able to take a stroll around the yard/garden on your break. Plus, the commute is so easy. The downside is on days when the weather is gorgeous (like today) when I almost have to chain myself to the desk to get anything done.

That is Magnolia x soulangiana. The dark leaved tree to the left is a crabapple that blooms beautifully each year, has no leaf diseases, and fruits heavily. Both were planted about 30-35 years ago.

Kevin - I just had a brainstorm taking a walk outside in my own garden. The saucer magnolias are losing their leaves already (bloomed two days ago, we had heavy rains yesterday and all last night) and some of the petals blew over by the emerging foliage of Purple Palace heucheras. I've been noticing how they get lost in the shade, with their dark foliage, and have been thinking of planting them in more sun. What pink flowered plants have the same colored petals as the saucer magnolias? That would be a nice combination.

What is the Magnolia parentage? Those sure look like tiny flowers for a mag.
