Picked some of these up at Walmart.
Might not last over winter, but I'll find out if I can have a fancier one.
For $7.42 guaranteed what do I have to lose
I'm green with envy. Be sure to plant it in a sheltered spot, the wind will tear up the leaves. ;-)
I saw some similar plants at Lowes. Surely it's just a red seedling Japanese maple, but in my mind there's no such thing as a bad Japanese maple, so go for it. Zone 5a, eh, borderline for sure, but at less than $10.00, it's almost as cheap as some annuals.

And you just never know... I've had a Robinson's Red JM in my garden since 2003. This tree has seen -25F without any damage and the tree is in a VERY exposed spot in my backyard.
I wonder if Home Depot will have any JM's for sale here in the Twin Cities???
BCG,
That's a great deal. Hopefully you purchased more than one?
Thanks,
Mike
I picked up 3. I do have an account that I go to that has one that is at least 5 years old. I don't think they are common because of the price really.
I usually have excellent results with 1 gallon shrubs.
I agree with PartyGirl -- the siting will make a big difference, so give it careful thought regardless of the great price.
