DARN Spider mites!!!

Phoenix, AZ

Pretty much ALL of my seedlings I started in January and transplanted outside appear to be covered in spider mites! Whats best to use? Soap & water solution?

I always spray with heavy mixed soapwater 1 part soap 3 parts water. leave it for an 1/2 hour and then spray with just water. If its not to cold outside spray them with water every other day and dont forget under the leaves.
Spidermite hates water. This is how I treat my houseplants. DONT leave the soap on the plants in full sun, they can get burns from it then.

It should be around 100 degrees today, so cold is NOT a problem LOL!!

Thanks Janett!

Spider mites hate cool temperatures and a bath, especially with soap! An insecticidal soap should work but you must bath the plant in it. It works on contact only. It works by dissolving the waxy covering on the insect's body or, put another way, its skin peals off! (Yucky! What a way to go. Sorry, I have no sympathy for spider mites!) Insecticidal soap can cause foliar burn if applied at high temperatures so apply early in the morning when the temperature is below 80F. Apply at least once per week, not more than twice, and continue until you see no sign of spider mites for 6 weeks (after killing the adults, eggs remain to hatch out). In between treatments, syringe the plats to knock off adults and raise the relative humidity.
