The first 'Who's sick of this weather' was getting a bit long so I added a new fresh post.
First thread below

Who's STILL sick of this weather?!!
Sue for screen shots I use 'Grab', a native program on OSX (Yes, I'm a Mac die hard!)
so if you are on pc I can't help ya.
WOW Sue, what a shot! From this AM??
No a couple of weeks ago. In fact, I had just finished uploading that shot when I felt a small earthquake as well. Part of this freaky weather.
Ok, now Lali, do you know anything about Hi-Mark Begonias in Carpenteria? Nothing in Garden Watchdog, probably because they don't do mail order anymore. They have a few I want. I am going to San Diego in June and want to stop in there.
http://www.himarkbegonias.com/
In the shrubs catagory:
B. 'Lady Brown' (gotta get hat one, it's my last name!)
B. 'Gary Hunt'
B. 'Mrs. Fred T. Scripps'
B. 'Thompson's Folly'
B. 'Wabbit Twacks' (who can resist that?!)
LOL Sue, I was just on that site 3 minutes ago getting all hot and bothered.
Do not get 'Mrs. Fred T. Scripps' . That is one I have and will share a piece. If I had done what I said I would do, I would have already one rooted for you.
LOL, Kell, I printed out a LONG list from somewhere with begonia names but it's not long enough as I keep coming across ones that are not on the list, so they are being added to the back. I have lots of check marks, notes, highlighted names, it's getting quite dog eared.
So are they easy to root? I finally cut off a big piece of Cracklin Rose cane yesterday and put it in a glass of water as I read that's how to do the canes.
Lets ask Lali. She knows more than me. But she gave me tons of cuttings and they are all still alive.
Hi Mark is Brad Thompson's place in So Cal. He has recently joined forces with Kartuz and will be there now. I believe Hi Mark is either closing or not doing begonias. I can't remember but I bet Joolz in begonias can answer this.
I want Wabbit Twacks too!
good to know your cuttings are still alive Kell!
Well shoot, now I have to go back and look at Wabbit Twacks. You know if Sue wants it, I do. LOL
The name just twacks me up! Plus it's different, I like different. So many look so simular.
Gosh, I wish I could enlarge those pics on his site. My eyes must be getting smaller.
I am laughing so hard.
Well, whet us know when you find dat whascally wabbit!
Begonia - thanks so much for letting me know about Grab! I had one daylily site where I wanted to upload the photos of several plants that I had bought from them but their site was impervious to the key strokes I had.
Now I've put them in my records and they aren't missing from the photo gallery - my private one that is.
Are everyone else's plants being idiots today? Yesterday I had four inches of rain in my garden. Today the sun came out and everything looks all droopy, as if it wants to be watered.
I'm droopy, not used to having to dress for the warmer weather and I got overheated quick! I'm being watered right now!
I know just what you mean, Sue. I started out the day with three layers of clothing and ended up in a sundress and sandals. It must be about 25 degrees warmer today than it was yesterday. Now I wonder how long it will take for all my neighbors to start complaining about the heat and worrying about a possible drought.
I have already started to complain. LOL.
Zuzu and Kell, add me to the list of complainers. Geez, a few transition days would be nice... And it's so frustrating to have this sunny day and not be able to dig because our lovely clay soil is so waterlogged. Oh well, it's a start, I guess.
This is presumptuous because I'm a newbie around here, but I would love to sign on for any nursery safaris coming up. I'm recently retired and it's just dawning on me that I can ... what?! ... do fun stuff during the day, instead of working! And buying plants is so much healthier than online gambling or three-martini lunches. It sounds like all of you have met and hung out together, so set me straight if I should back off! Thanks.
Yippeee! Sign me up for the gardening and the 3-martini lunch simultaneously. Then the gopher damage doesn't seem so devastating.
Do not back off, Suzette. Some of us actually haven't met in person at all. I, for example, have never met any of these people except in DG. I'm crazy about them all, but I've never met them. Shopping sprees are the most fun when there's lots and lots of people.
Oh no Suzette, you are welcome to join in. We all just goof around on the forums together. A few of us have nursery hopped together. Which by the way is our favorite pass time. I just decided yesterday that I am retiring!!! I figure why wait?
We are all going to a nursery, Monterey Bay, soon I hope, that is a great one to get in on. Sue is organizing that one for us. It is a wholesale nursery!! I can't wait. Sue by the way lives in San Jose.
Okay, and we can play a few hands of poker when it rains. LOL
Thanks for the welcoming comments, Zuzu. I've been trying to stay out of my office and away from my computer, but will check in regularly. Look forward to gettiing to know everyone.
Thanks to you, too, Kell. Monterey Bay Nursery would be a fab field trip; they're supposed to have a huge selection. Count me in. Now I have to go rob a liquor store, because my plant budget is pretty depleted.
We have a great time here Suzette. You saw over on the rose forum, we are not always totally sane. LOL. We all understand each other's weaknesses so well and we all egg each other on. A year from now, you will be collecting plants you never heard of before. This site exposes you to things you never knew you loved and couldn't live without.
I say we skip the garden gallop and head on over to Suzettes for 3 martoonies! but I stink at poker. Now cribbage is another story altogether!
I've only met Kell so far and galloped with a few other Nor Cali gals in November.
Sue do you have a tenative date yet for Monteray bay?
Oh I wish I could send some to you drdon, at least the reservors are full.
Suzette, we will make sure to let you know about the Monterey Bay trip.
Kell, Keith said Fridays are best for him, he makes the nursery rounds selling Mon-Wednesdays and goes to Monterey on Fridays every other week. I'll touch base with him & we'll finalize the actual date soon.
Thanks, Sue, and everyone. Look forward to details on the Monterey Bay excursion. Yes, we'll definitely have to knock down our garage to make more room for plants — I can see you are all very, very, very bad influences. (I loved Zuzu's idea of planting on top of the garage, but I'm afraid of heights.)
I just got an email from Carlmont nursery that their Sango Kaku (coral bark) maples are 25% off between the 15th and the 21st if anyone is looking for one.
Hi all,
Easter was spent in the house with all the kids and grandkids. Rain, Rain and more rain.
Boy I am really ready for a nursery trip. I think I will take a day off work and just enjoy some plant life. Hopefully a sunny day.
I would love to get in on one of your trips. Maybe meet you guys at a nursery sometime.
Here I sit hoping for sun!
Linda
On Sunday, Linda. Come to my house. We're going to Vintage Gardens, Garden Valley Ranch, the Sebastopol flea market, and ....? So far, Kell, Kajlaw, and SuzetteM are coming for sure. Everyone is welcome. D-mail me for directions.
Regan's is having a sale starting the 17th if anyone's interested.
Two! Whole! Days! of SUN!
ahhhh....
Group expotitions to nurseries sound like wonderful fun, only I'm sitting on my hands (well, okay and watering and amending), WAITING for our straw bales to be ready to plant all the starts we've already got sitting patiently (or bloomingly, depending) out on the back patio table.
doss, thanks for sale info notes.
