Bulblets

(Zone 6a)

When I recently bought some lilies there was some tiny bulblets in the bag......How long will it take for these to mature and flower?

If it is asiatic lilies, they should flower in 1-2 years depending on their size. If less than the size of a dime, they will take about 2 years. A walnut sized bulb is required to flower. Let the bulblets grow and water with dissolved liquid fertilizer.

Yeah, It's smaller then a dime...
It's called 'white twinkle tiger oriental'........thats all it said on the package.

Thanx,

The twinkle tigers aren't orientals are they??? I've got them listed in my database as a hybrid of L lancifolium, previously L tigrinum. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.

That's what I though too. Maybe it was just mislabeled. I always thought it was hybrid of lancifolium too...Heres a picture of the label, if you want to take a look. It's more white then it looks there though.

Here's what it says on the back of the tag:

"Tiger Twinkle Oriental Lily
white recurve petals with black spots.
Spectacular Oriental Lily grow 3' tall and can sport as many as 10-12 blooms per stem! Flowers are whitish yellow on the inside, off white on the outside, and have a wonderful fragrance. 'Tiger Twinkle' naturalizes well. Plant in well drained soil. Zones 3 - 8."

Hum...probably not a real tiger.

I did find this Tiger in the plantfiles http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/57225/index.html . Which I think could be it. Since the tag said it was a tiger I assumed it would be tall a planted it a the back.........

Yours is such a better photo then mine, but they look pretty similar.
How tall does yours grow? I hope they're the same, cause yours is really nice :)

About 3 to 4 feet. Depends on where you plant them. They get taller with less sun. Don't be disappointed if it's not very tall this year. It sometimes takes a year or two to hit full height.

Ok, I have to say thanks again for your lily help, you've told me so much. I'm sort of new to growing them. One of my bulbs from last year has 2 stems coming instead of one, hehe :) I love how they multiply so quickly! More like a perennial then a bulb.

We're all learning here, Steve. Just about the time I think I know what I'm doing, something happens to humble me. I am looking forward to a good year this year, I've got lilies popping up all over.

(Zone 6a)

Hey, I just went and dug up my america that was half eaten(no stem left at all) and there was fresh white roots growing out of the bulb!!! It was still alive and growing! So maybe it would have come up next year after all.....

I've got some scales from it and another casualty and am starting them also. I put them in a ziplock with some potting soil and H2O2 water to make it moist. Then I put it in my closet where its dark. I hope I did it right :)
