Okay, the newspaper smacking has made my day, so we're even. :)

So....from a laymen, then is it safe to say that a harpin therefore is a facilitor of some sort- it facillitates and event in the plant?

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

I'd say that is close. An elicitor to be exact.

Okay...new word..heading for the dictionary..

New York & Terrell, TX(Zone 8b)

elicitor:
1.
1. To bring or draw out (something latent); educe.
2. To arrive at (a truth, for example) by logic.
2. To call forth, draw out, or provoke (a reaction, for example).

educe: To draw or bring out; elicit.

Oh well; it goes in circles you know. It works! That's what matters!

I'll elicit ya'll to continue the discussion--I'm an "illicit (?) lurker" lol

Lucerne Valley, CA(Zone 8a)

I've been lurking lately, but illicit licentiousness elicits my return!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

This thread is facilitates the illicit licentiousness of sillyness.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Such an excellent thread as this has elicited a well-deserved BUMP!

( much more visible than a harpin protein attached to a plant, if I understood what I've just read).

So, Messenger is ok for an organic garden, but Mighty Plant is conventional fertilizer with Messenger, so it is not. Does anyone use MP on their vegetables?

Nope, Messenger is not approved for organic. I think if you're going with the "spirit" of organic in that you're not adding harmful chemicals to your garden, etc then you can make an argument that it's OK to use, but if you're trying to grow organic produce or something that you want to sell and call organic, it is not approved by OMRI for use in organic growing. Eden Bioscience says on their website that it's something to do with their manufacturing process why they can't get organic certification (although they don't mention exactly what it is about the process) http://www.edenbio.com/garden/index.php?option=com_simplefaq&task=answer&Itemid=79&catid=42&aid=7

ok, spirit, not for market.
Very informative and fun to read thread.

I'm so glad I chanced upon this thread. Very interesting and informative discussion. I've read about Messenger, but have chosen to try Bokashi instead as it seemed to be more "organic" to me and I have a better understanding on how it works.

Your explanations about Messenger and how it works was excellent by the way, that's the first time I really got the "drift". I do have medical background, but the "blurbs" on the site were way over my head. LOL Thank you for sharing!
