Ok this morning I went to Pasadena, TX- those of you who do not live here should not reject TX completely just because of pasadena- LOL it's a huge chemical/refinery town and not known for the crips clean fresh air that Sharper Image speaks about- anyway, the Nasa Area African Violet Society had a sale today- they'd planned a show but a month before the date they found out by accident that the new owner of the site had cancelled all agreements to use the space. But I digress, anyway, of course I couldn't help myself and although I didn't buy tons, I did buy some new babies!
But first, here is a current picture of Rob's Humpty Doo!
Pictures!
This is Bluebeard, it didn't come from the sale, but came from Dave's- he'd taken forever and a day, due to illness to send me Pow Wow- YES!!!! I finally got it, but it's sooooo small- any way, Bluebeard was a freebie. Don't know if you can see it but the leaves have a dark, sort of blue center. Very nice
Rob's Argyle Socks- yes I know everybody's seen this but there is something different about seeing it in person and seeing it in a picture. I am sure that I may have asked someone for a leaf or plantlet of this one and if so I would still be happy to take it but if you have another home for it, that's ok too.
Leaves- Rob's Loose Noodle is for my daughter to try her luck w/; the others Alamo Jester, Rob's Bahama Mama and Ukranian Winter are for my growing "babies" that's what my grandson and I call them as we are taking care of them during the day. LOL.
Last few weeks have been very busy so I felt I had to show pictures or not be allowed back in the forum! LOL.
I loved the leaves on Berry Splash. When you get a photo of the flowers please post it. Linda

Also hoot me I don't think I gave you the info on Russian Snow Leopard . Sorry :(( But the plant is outstanding !
Your's may need re-potting, suckers removed grow new plants ! And watering food program and 12 hours a day light. If in the window put under lamp a few hours at night ! Can't wait to see yours bloom :))
Yea!!! Great plants, Petrocosmea minor is so cute!!!!
Allison yes the Rob's Humpty Doo- very cute AV, but that is such a silly name, did come from you and I was surprised that it bloomed- the plant is cute, small, but didn't seem to be doing much of anything and then suddenly sent up 2 spikes! I think I broke off the 1st bloom w/ my usual grace- LOL, but not too worry there is more where that came from.
You did give me that Snow Leopard, you sent it w/ your care package for those who thought they could participate in a trade w/ only a few AVs.
The guys at the sale were very nice and w/ my interest may be starting a club close to me, they need a certain number of people and I guess were short but now may not be- so excited.
There were beautiful plants on display, their larger plants- too big for dixie cups- were too much in my opinion, 11.00 to 20.00; the babies were the usual, leaves were usual. They had lots of Epescias and Streps and it seemed like that is what they were pushing, though I am not sure why- few were in bloom and the AVs were mostly in bloom and of course were beautiful. Possibly going to reschedule a show, since they had to cancel at the last moment and I will make sure to be there, I want to attend a show. Anyway, enough about that.
Regarding the Berry Splash, this was one I'd seen so many times in photos and thought hmm, that's nice, but I wasn't necessarily thrilled about it, of course seeing it in person and in such great condition was the straw that broke this camal's back! LOL. Yes it is very pretty. I think the the flower may be a double, but I can't remember. Anyway I will put down leaves for any who want.
Petrocosmea is really interesting, I didn't really know what it was, other than pretty and appealing, until I looked at the AV site and did some reading. I hope that it blooms soon. I hope they all do, can't wait to share photos!

Hello,
Berry Splash is definitely my favorite!
TFS!
Joanne
It really is pretty, but honestly I'd seen it and passed it by when looking at on line photos, I liked it but didn't think it was all that. In person it's all that AND a bag of chips.
You can always eat the chips April and send the plant to me :))
HAHAHA...Allison, you are such a joker! Not to Worry I put a leaf down for someone special!
WOW! You got some real beauties, and Berry Splash is awesome. Congrats :-)
Thanks, it was fun but not as many plants as I might have found had they been able to have their show!
I keep hearing so much about Snow Leopard. It must be a beautiful plant for people to be talking about it so much. I will have to look that one up.
Jesse
It's a Russina plant I grew from a leaf from Blurbirds Jesse. You should have grabbed one while you were there.

I will take more pictures April it has all kinds of new buds and blooms. I have a leaf suport coming from VB as it's getting so large and leaves big I don't won't them to break.
Love Berry Splash. The leaves are wonderful and I love the bloom color.
Nanna the leaves are very thick and felt like- my grandson loves them too. Very pretty.
Allison I have begun having serious talks w/ my Snow Leopard and I am sure that we are going to get past this stage, she is just be difficult! LOL- I keep looking for blossoms, but so far nothing. Hoping that changing my set up will fix the problem!
My snow leopard is full of buds and two will be opening soon.
I know that you can't see me, but I am frowning! for me of course, for you I am excited, do send pictures!
Anna do you have the Russian Snow Leopard ?
Ok April what are we going to do with your Snow Leopard. ? Laurie's bloomed and her's is younger and smaller than your's.
Mine is not too old grew it by leaf but wow like your foliage is large and fast growing.
I took more pictures today . Just have to get help tomorrow to download them. One old bloom stlak on mine had ten flowers left ( Think 10 ..and it had like 12-13 flowers I took the spent ones off)
First I took the plant pictures with them, then I lifted them to show a nice bunch of buds under neath being hidden from this bouquet of flowers. Then I took them off and put them into a small vase and took a couple pictures of them in the vase . very pretty ! My plant now has two new bloom stalks each with a bloom opened and more bloom stalks coming up. My plant has grown large but I could not find a measuring tape. I have Rob from VB sending me some leaf suports as their so heavy I am going to grow it large :)) I have suckers and Mom leaf with babies growing fast :))
This plant has amazed me ! Laurie's has green stripes !
Oh I was reading too much fertilizer can stop a plant from blooming too.
Now light is the most important your plants need it :))
Well I don't know...sob..but I am hoping this weekend to put together one of those build it yourself w/ PVC shelf systems and buy lights, thanks to Junglebob!- so this may all be a pointless conversation. But Allison, I just don't know, "What's a mother to do?"
I am going to believe that it is the light, they get good light but maybe that area doesn't get enough total light per day.
Does it need tranplanting maybe ? I got up-set I dropped mine while back and broke leaves and washed it off and potted it into a 4 inch pot too soon and well it just started growing crazy and buds a forming ! Now it has a pretty good shape and getting pretty large . I say it will be in a 5 inch azela pot someday !
So I should drop it?!
Once I read where some woman couldn't get her rose to bloom and her mother told her to beat it w/ a broom, that she had always done that w/ her roses, etc. Anyway the woman began to beat the rose and that year had freat blooms!
Well I dropped mine by accident. I think I had just watered or trans-planted something. I dropped and smashed it lost some leaves totaly out of wack. I put it into a new 4 inch pot this time. Don't ask me why maybe I was out of small it was too large for three ?
All I know is that all the foliage has grown back all leaves about even same size. Funny how this happens. I am always taking leaves off of my plants to put down or give to people and the plants grow back new leaves even faster ! It had many sucker so maybe I had just taken them off. It had not bloomed yet. Now it has not stopped blooming ! I took pictures a few days ago I need to show you new pictures !
I love it :)) I also have suckers growing fast in their own pots, and the leaves that broke off with lots of babies.
Here is info from a great Russian link . This link is also on AVSA Photo Gallery. It also has two pictures of Russian Snow Leopard.
