I took this picture of a hickory tree today that I want to put on PlantFiles but don't know what type it is. I was thinking mockernut or pignut. The tree is planted next to the cemetary that my grandfather is buried at.
What kind of hickory?
Looks most like mockernut (Carya tomentosa) based upon the bark and what I can see of the foliage. Count the leaflets, zoom in on a dormant bud (with a scale included), and also place a scale by the nuts for size.

There are seven leaflets and they are larger than pecan leaflets. There are several of these trees growing in that church yard and a couple of babies. I am glad to find some other types of hickories other than overpopulated pecans.
