I don't think that's an M. x soulangiana in your second picture. It could very well be one of the Loebneri types, though, or a more complex hybrid. Saucers have pink and white (generally) and have fatter cup-shaped blooms.
Where are all the Magnoliaphilish types to help out here? Shades of Ron_B!
Proper terminology and all: M. stellata might actually be called M. kobus var. stellata and M. x loebneri might be M. kobus var. loebneri. Confuses me when the renaming starts, stops, sputters, and synonymizes.
