Pride of Barbados g.- unlike other Pride of Barbados these flowers have nice scent! The tree form is not as pleasing as the other forms, but you can prune it anyway you like I suppose.

I had a gorgeous one, red, at my former home and so far have not planted one here, I miss it, they are so wonderful! I have tried the pink variety by seed from vendors but never came up w/ a pink one, : ((

This is one of my favorite Amaryllis!

My blue Iochroma- I can't keep up w/ this plant, should have put it in more shade to control growth! But I love it.

Lovely pictures everyone.I really enjoy them!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes Junglebob they are amazingly beautiful and perfect for the terrible heat, humidity & soil we have- they call our soil "Gumbo" and it fits! My daughter has many other varieties, I have but a few and moved them last year so they bloomed unenthusiasticly for me.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Beautiful !

What kind of tree grows over your amaryllis, April? I just planted a Hippeastum x johnsonii outdoors today.
Kenton

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Those are some type of Oak-

all of the new subdivisions in this part of Missouri City have a provision in their Homeowner's Association that requires each home to plant 2 oak trees in their front yard- it's a rule and don't think they won't inforce it! One year we were having a bad drought and the HA sent out notices reminding folks that if they didn't water their oaks and let them die, they'd be required to replace them w/ oaks and proceeded to tell you the height and diameter requirements. Sometimes these folks can get a bit crazy!

-I do not know the answer to that, it is not one that I commonly see here, is not a Live Oak but other than that I do not know. It seems to grow w/ a seriously pyramidal shape and is much more attractive to me than the Live Oak that everybody here seems to be in love with.

Denver, CO

Willow Oak, perhaps. What a silly HA rule. Don't they realize how unhealthy it is to grow a monoculture... I would be lynched If there were a homeowner's association here!

Oh they are sillier than that! You don't even want to mention xeroscaping- well apparently I don't want to spell it either, but they have rules about what can be planted in your front yard, etc. it's really stupid and I have no idea what it is based on. When you buy these homes they have preplanted foundation type plants, only problem is they plant things that are not meant to stay within a reasonable size- for example in this house they planted 4 Myrtles that without pruning will grow into multi-trunked- and the not the emphisis on multi- TREES of 10 to 15 ft. Now how is that for a nice little hedge shrub in front of your dining room window! Ludicrous!
