When I planted them a few years ago, the spacing was fine, but now that they are growing bigger, they need to be spaced out. If I move them now (I'm in zone 5), will they still bloom this year? Tamara
Is it too late to move my Rose of Sharon?
I have moved quite a few rose of sharons. Make sure they are shaded at least a few weeks after transplanting them. And then gradually get them used to sunlight again. I would suggest using something like greenlight root stimulator at least once every four days for a few weeks. Make sure the roots stay moist.
Sure they will bloom and make sure you trim them so about 1/3 of the plant (not the tips only) are thinned and it will take off in 2 or 3 years. It is always good to shape the bush when transplanting. It helps the move and gives you the courage.
Thanks for the advice! Looks like I have one more thing to add to my garden "to do" list! Tamara
