I still have loads of these left!
These are easy to grow & hardy to zone 3. They can be planted close together for a hedge, or pruned for a specimen tree.
I would glady trade for postage - 2 stamps would be enough for 50-100 seeds. Or I will trade for seeds - your choice. (But I enjoy herbs & annual flowers most)
I hate to compost them - any takers?
Julie

I would love some for postage if you have any left !
Thanks..
Mary
Big_Red - Gosh they are so cute! Are you staggering them, or sowing them all in one shot? They germinate very easily.
SeedSower- Got your email - we will go from there...
PlantiMcPlanter - send me your address & I will get them out to you. (I love your ID!)
Gardening_In_Ga - Send me your address - I will mail them to you. I would love some coneflower or giant Zinnias!
txjaks - I have plenty more - send me your address!
I think if I sent out 50 trades, I would be able to find a place for them all. I don't think I will collect so many NEXT Autumn!
Hi Julie,
I would LOVE some of your Rose of Sharon seeds. Will get the stamps right out. Thanks so much.
Bev
Julie,
I sowed them all at one shot, 4 seeds to a container. The first seed came up in 4 days, then one every day or so after.
I plan on setting them in my lawn in 2 different spots, 1 container to a spot. Is 3 plants too many to set out in one spot?
Julie,
I would love some as well...will get your envie out today...
I still have many seeds left as well if you wanna take a peek at'em here..just let me know and i will send them in the envie as well. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/584442/
Thanks,
Char
I would love some also. I dont have what you are looking for but I do have seeds for peach foxglove, different colors of comos, MGs, and columbine. Thanks
Big_Red - I would set them at least 6 inches apart - 3 together will make a nice bushy tree, moreso than a single plant. If they are too close, they will stunt in growth - but I think a few inches apart would be sufficient.
Char -Your choice. I enjoy trying new things, so I will leave it up to you!
Nanners - Your choice too!
I do like to pick out things, but it is also fun to just see what you get too! The main thing is to get these Rose of Sharon seeds to people. That makes it worth the effort :)
I sent your seeds out today. I sent you a few of different kinds so you can have a variety and not so many of one kind in case you already have some.
Hope you like the ones I picked. They are all favorites of mine.
Most are commercial seeds because they are a specific type that might not come true from saved seed.
Julie,
Do you still have some seeds left? I would like to have some for postage please!
Deb
Thank you WIndy - I am sure they will be wonderful additions to my garden. I love to have as many different things as possible. No plans, organization or color theme - just a big beautiful mess :)
Deb - I have loads left - send me you address & I will get them out to you!
By the way - I am sending a good amount of the seeds to people, so you most likely will end up with too many seeds to plant. Please share them with neighbors, friends, or use for trades. Just pass them along to someone who would enjoy them!
Hi,
I would love some to! I have statice - sinuata mix or statice suworowii if you want to trade or i can send a sabe.
Thanks Marilyn
JRush, I would love love some seeds! I think I'll send you some seeds AND some stamps. :) That way if you're not interested in the seeds you can send 'em on back, and if you do keep my seeds you still don't have to pay postage as a thank you for being generous.
Cham
Marilyn - the Statice sounds nice - whichever you choose is fine. Go ahead & send me your address - I will get the seeds out in this week's mail (I hope!)
Chamelle - Either seeds OR stamps, but not both. That would not be fair. I have tons of these, & I would hand them to people if I could locate them locally! It is just a matter of finding the folks who would like them, & getting the seeds out to them.
JRush,
Do you still have some seeds left? I would like to have some for postage please if possble.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Pete Hanlon
JRush - How tall do these get? You said it could be pruned into a tree. How tall would that get? Do you know the variety?
Hi Julie,
My stamps are in the mail today! Thanks!
Deb
Hi.
This is my first visit to the seed swap board and would love to grow Rose of Sharon. If you have any seeds left, I'd like to request a few. I've nothing to trade yet except hardy hibiscus and sunflower seeds. I'll be happy to send you some.
Thanks. :-)
LoraB
pehanlon - Send me your address & I will get them out to you on Monday - I have plenty left!
beakerch - I don't know the variety - we have had them growing in our yard for about 20 years. They can be pruned to form bushy shrubs, & this also produces more blossoms. Ours are 10-15 feet in height now. You can vary the height, depending on how hard you prune. They can take a lot of abuse - hard pruning, drought, etc.
LoraB - send me your address & I will mail them out to you on Monday...
Hi Julie,
Do you think they would survive the heat here in zone 9 B.? Do you know anybody you have sent seed to that lives this far south? They sure are easy on the eyes. Great photo by the way.
Don
Julie thanks a bunch got the seeds in the mail today!!! THanks for sending sooo many! WOW!! Cant wait to start them! How long does it take to get some blooms out of these guys?? I have a double Althea which I think is sort of similar to these rose of Sharons....if so They are super hardy as you are describing.
Gardening_in_Georgia,
I planted some from seed three years ago. Last year my two and a half foot tall plant bore flowers. I don't know if I got those seeds from Julie or not, but they are the same color as hers.
I usually plant them in a flower bed so I can keep an eye on thier progress when they are small. After a year or so I move them, but mark them as the are deciduous and the trunk is slender and easily pulled out by mistake.
I really love the ones I have grown from seed and am going to plant Julie's today as they have been soaking for a couple of days.
Windy
May be a dumb question....but did you plant more then one seed at a time? I am thinking of starting them in a gallon size pot like flowers you buy from Lowes or something would come in.....that woudl give them room to make a good root system and I could transfer them to bigger sizes if needed.
So do I just put one seed in there??
Julie!
Got the seeds today, my sase passed the seeds on thier way here! Gardening_in_GA is right, there are a TON of seeds in that envelope!
G_in_GA, I think I will start mine pots too. Since I don't know how readily they will germinate, I will probably put three seeds in each. Since there are so many seeds, I can live with thinning down to one per pot.
Thanks again Julie, I hope you enjoy your seeds. Hope you can find use for the envelopes!
Cham
Thanks a bunch Chamelle
Since they are shrubs and not flowers the roots do not overtake a pot too quickly. I plant them sometimes five or more to a pot. They are pretty straight like a tree sapling would be. The ones I sowed last year are about eight inches high now. I planted them in the spring last year. They will not grow during the cold winters here, just like a tree goes dormant.
You wouldn't need to thin them out for a year probably.
Windy thanks!! That helps alot!! I will plant several of them in a larger pot tomorrow and just let them be on the patio.....
If you still have some of the Rose of Sharon, i can trade you SASBE or some Oregano ( Origanum Vulgare ). I'm just getting my garden started at a new house ( well new to me at least).
Thanks
Alex

Don't envy you at all, Alex. I had to start fresh with just a seeded lawn and a few inch tall shrubs eight years ago. It is no fun.
The thing I missed was shade from a mature tree. It sure makes a difference as my little trees are starting to put out a little shade.
I would love to have some for the postage trade.
Don - I have snet seeds to folks in your zone, so I assume they will survive. Perhaps the seed may not be viable, without a stratification period? This could be accomplished with the fridge method too. I haven't heard any negatives from you warmer climate denizens!
Alex & zindorf - I still have some seed left, so email me your address & I will send them out to you.
Alex - If you would like some other seeds for your new house, just let me know, ok?
Our hedge is at least 20 years old, so I have forgotten some of the details when they were young - (I was young then too!) I have some seedlings that I grew, tossing a handful of seeds into the soil. They are stunted from being way too close together, & are about 3 inches tall after 1 year. I will thin them out & then they will begin growing normally. I have found the root to be quite deep by the 3rd year, although they will transplant without damage at this stage. It is just hard to dig them out. The seedlings can be transplanted the first year - the Winter temperatures will not harm them at all.
I am amazed - this is the first time I have been able to successfully give away nearly ALL of my ROS seeds! Perhaps my heavy hand had something to do with it, but it was nice to share them with everyone :)
Kim,
Any extra seeds would help alot, the only color this yard has is a half dead lavender plant that might make a comeback, and oleander bushes that were overgrown ( over 12' tall ) which i am trying to takeout( they are very persistant ). I just bought some celosea ( cockscomb ) and Blue Bird Forget-Me-Nots. Starting them in pots tomorrow.
Alex
Julie- My seeds came yesterday! Thanks so much!
deb
We did it! I have found homes for over a gallon container full of these seeds, thanks to everyone who responded to my offers. (I have some spares, in case anyone still sends in an SASE) Thank you everyone for helping me to accomplish this - I didn't think it could be done! These seeds have been sent all over the place in the US, & Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden - it is a tremendous feeling of satisfaction. Until next year -
Julie
Juile,
just recieved the seeds, thanks for the generous amount. Great instuctions, a real bonus
