Happy Birthday! Hope it was a SUPER HAPPY ONE.
How come all the sweetest people are over here at the Brug Forum? I haven't visited here for a while, but somehow, I knew my friends over here were thinking of me today even though I'm trying not to admit that I'm having another birthday and have become a year older. You guys are great.
Thanks so much, friends, for the lovely birthday thread and good wishes. I hope you all have a wonderful spring filled with lots and lots of flowers.
That a lovely picture, Kell! Thanks for starting this thread. Kisses right back at ya.
Shirley, that is a great picture too:-) Love the turtle.
Kay, I miss you! I'll send you an email real soon, and we'll catch up.

We are all pretty sweet, aren't we? LOL. So did you get any special plants to celebrate your day, Clare? Nosey people want to know. LOL
Awe, thanks again, everyone. Yes, you sure are all very sweet -- as sweet as they come. I've not run across a nicer group of people than those here at Dave's Garden. Thanks again for all the birthday wishes.
Kell, LOL! You are are funny, girl! I ordered ten plumerias from Florida Colors about a month ago, and since that came to a little over $200, I told DH that I would be receiving them right around my birthday, and we would call that purchase my birthday present! Do I know how to work it, girl, or not? LOL!
Yes, you do! LOL. Do you have pics of their flowers? I bet they are great. I bought another one to. A big one. LOL
NEBEL'S RAINBOW You are in such trouble girl for getting me started!!
LOL, Kell. I'll make it up to you one of these days by sending you a gaudy pink as soon as I find one! Here is a thread where I describe the ones that I got, along with Florida Colors's Variety Sheet showing some pictures of them http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/571517/ Warning: don't look if you don't want to be enabled! LOL!
I just realized that that link doesn't list what I ordered but only lists Florida Colors's Variety List. Here is what I ordered:
Fruit Salad Caboulture
Henrietta
Jeanette
Lurline
Magnum Opus
Negril
Tex Huestis
Thai Orange
Vera Cruz Rose
P. species bahamiensis
Also, congrats on your Nebel's Rainbow, Kell! That's a real pretty one.
WOW!!
I had to run this morning for I was giving a wedding shower for a friend. I had to go buy a few hundred daffodils and gerber daisies (which has replaced lilies as my number 1 cut flower). We had a garden party theme. Every thing was so pretty but we had to have it inside..............MORE RAIN!! Are you getting the rain too CLare? I hear we are getting another 2 weeks of rain. I am starting to get worried about my plants.
Anyway, I just got back and saw your plumie parade. WOW!! I love Brad's Buds and Blooms's Negril, tell me is that the name or is this Brad's pic and the name is Negril. I want it. LOL. Does the flower head always ball up like that, so huge? Looks like a fancy, fancy clivia. I am in love.
How big is Magnum Opus? Looks like a water color. I can see why these are addicting and mine are doing so great. You should see them. They are growing like crazy. So easy and here I thought they were hard to grow.
Hi Kell,
Gerber Daisies are really cool as cut flowers.
Yes, we are getting lots of rain here too. Can you try to cover the soil of your containers so they can't take in any more water? My plumies are so water-logged, but I bet they will be all right with even more rain as long as it does not get too cold here at night. They are fairly hardy plants and easy to grow like you said.
Negril is the correct name, and it is supposed to smell like cloves. Brad often has one for sale on eBay, but I don't see it among his listings. I'm sure if you email him, he will sell you one directly. His web site should be up and running soon. You can also get one from Florida Colors like I just did. FC has it $15 for a cutting, $18 for a rooted cutting, and $20 for a grafted plant. The flowers are described as being three inches across. Yes, many trees have infloresences with flowers which bloom at once and form a ball or a cluster. As old flowers fades, new ones open. You see many mature trees have this flower cluster thing. It is really lovely to see. The more mature the tree, the bigger the flowers and the bigger the inflo. Check out this Singapore in this picture below which my friend Kukiat sent me.
Magnum Opus is a Pink Pansy cross and has 4" pink and white flowers.
That's great that yours are doing so well. I knew they would do well under your care.

Happy Birthday, Clare!
Clare, I would so love a supply of gerbers, like your friend. I would have them all over the house. Last week I had some that were electric yellow and then I got some that were a hot pink. Together they were incredible. I always have cut flowers next to my computer, I was mesmerized by the pink with the yellow. True gaud. LOL Right now, I have a new kind of mum that I loved until I just remembered those gerbers. Oh well.
Tonight I started to push over my pots on their side. That should help.
You make me want them all. LOL.
I especially want a tree like that one in the picture. I just can't imagine a plumeria tree like that all in flower.
Thanks so much, Alice and Crystal!
Kell, my neighbor always had vases and vases of Gerber Daisies in her house when her husband worked for the supplier, but then he went on to work for someone else. They were beautiful and really cheered up a room. I was just sad that they didn't last longer than they did before flopping over.
It stopped raining for today and is supposed to be clear tomorrow before more rain comes this weekend. That's good that you put your containers on their side. Yes, that should help. I may have to do that also.
That is the problem with wanting them all: there are way too many to be had and more being developed all the time. I am already making notes as plumerias bloom about which ones are my favorites and which are not so I can keep my cultivar number at somewhere around 100 or less. I would love a large tree also, but I have no room for such a thing and don't think I ever will unless I win the Lotto or something. I am considering using a product called Bonzai to keep my plumies somewhat dwarf. They have trees like that all over Hawaii though so I may have to go visit there again one day just to see the plumeria trees, and hubby says that, one day, we will go visit our friend Kukiat in Thailand and see the trees there.
Clare, is that Lurline PURPLE???????
Kay
