Starting from seed how to?

Chickamauga, GA(Zone 7a)

Well I am new to Gardening and new to starting from seed :) I started several trays of different things I had gotten in trade this past Summer/fall and my husband set them out last weekend and I am afraid it looks like most of my little babies are going to be ruined! I had some star of yelta seedlings, several types of hibiscus, zinnias, hollyhock all kinds of things!

My question is I see all of you growing these MG in your house even blooming! How do you start everything out?? And how do you care for it as it gets bigger? I had started everything in the trays that have about 48 little 2-3 inch slots in them (plastic) filled wiht good quality dirt and I thought everything was going well, either the cold air got to them the other day (I want to believe this since it would be hubbies fault not mine) or I wasnt watering enough/too much?

They have a dried burned look to the leaves.

Any input? And how do you grow your MGs from seed

I cant tell you for sure what killed you plants, I do know that many mg:s doesn't like cold and definitely not frost. I too am new at growing MG:s and for sure new at growing from seeds totally. Cuttings, bulbs and such, perfectly okey but seeds............. I don't know how many seeds I killed during the years.
Being here at Dave's have learned me sooooooo much and now there are seedling sprouting, yeah sprouting from seeds everywhere in the house.
I start mine the same way you do, I did try some jiffy's but the ones that I put mg:s in molded FAST so I will stick to my small pots.
I cant put mine outside yet for obvious reason, we still have snow on the ground. I do soak my seeds first in 50-50 water and peroxide(3%) and that have worked wonders, all those MG:s that I have potted up so far have sprouted. In a week or two I will pot up even more different MG:s.
Some of them will grow in my garden and some will go to friends........I can always raid there garden for seeds since they are not in too the seed collecting stuff :0)) But there gardens will look stunning.

Thanks a bunch for reasuring me that it must have been the cold that killed them :)

I heard that about the kiffy pots thats why I stayed away from them! Everything is outside tonight getting soaked in the rain...I hope that they will spring back up when the 80 sunshine hits them tomorrow that we are suppose to get. We will see.....

What kinds of MGs do you grow?? from the way you talk sounds like you grow quite a few different kinds! Where is the best place to get seeds for other varieties? I have star of yelta I got in a SASE from someone on daves but see so many different interesting colors form pics on here it amazes me!

Currently growing indoors is " Midnight Velvet", red and white Moonflower, "Roman Candy", "Chocolate", Ipomoea Sepium, "Dbl Pink Picotee" and one that I lost the label on.
I did have more but our unnaturally dark winter with all to many days without sunshine even killed of many of my other older indoor plants and I had my hands full on keeping everything alive. We haven't had such LONG dark winter in over hundred years and I had only lights to save some :(
I got my seeds from people here at Dave's except the "Chocolate", that one I bought from a Swedish autionsite like E-bay. Hopefully by the end of the summer I will have seeds from that
I am not only growing Japanes morning glorys.I also will grow other Ipomoeas and some Convolvulacea, If all goes well I will have over 60 different kinds growing in the gardends of me and my friends, keeping fingers toes and arrms crossed that our summer will be normal and not follow in our wacky winters footsteps.
