Trichoeoya mazinga

Notasulga, AL

I purchased some seed of Trichoeoya mazinga. A search of Dave's PlantFiles, Google, and The Internation Plant Names Database (www.ipni.org/index.html) finds nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

It appears to be the cultivar name for a white Morning Glory (Ipomea)

Very nice. Love the flowers and the big, bold leaves

Hello,

I am expecting some seeds...I've heard it rumored that the plant pioctured is a white form of Ipomoea cordatotriloba...Ipomoea trichocarpa is the old botanical name for Ipomoea cordatotriloba...what the picture shows looks like a white Ipomoea hederacea to me...possibly an Ipomoea nil,but I'll be able to decipher more when I see the seeds...

You'all please forgive a 50 year old southern boy who is new to all this. EmmaGrace, I always thought a thread was something you sow up your pants with. Ron_Convolvulaceae, I have our University Professor of plant taxonomy working on Trichoeoya mazinga. It is clearly not a genus, species name. Have you checked out Dr. David Austin's site at the University of Florida? More Ipomoea info than you could shake a stick at. Thanks all!

rkesslerjr - Yes,I'm 'quite familiar' with Dr.Daniel F.Austins writings on the Family Convolvulaceae and have enjoyed encouraging other enthusiasts to check into his site and publications for some more indepth information on various MG's for at least several years now...I didn't for a micro-second think that the ' Trichoeoya Mazinga' was any type of legitimate binomial, but that part of the old epithet 'tricho-carpa' may have been incorporated into the 'tricho-eoya' part...

If anyone has clear photos of the sepals on the flowerbuds or seedpods,I could differentiate between Ipomoea cordatotriloba,Ipomoea hederacea or Ipomoea nil...I haven't received my seeds yet,but if you could post a nice closeup of the seeds...I will venture a further 'guess' as to whether the seeds are one of the species I strongly suspect it to be...

The seeds of this ' Trichoeoya Mazinga' arrived today, and they look like Ipomoea cordatotriloba, albeit a bit on the small size...definitely not Ipomoea nil, Ipomoea hederacea or Ipomoea purpurea...I suspect the name ' Trichoeoya Mazinga' to be a relatively recent appelation applied by a MG grower in the US...but the white flowered form of Ipomoea cordatotriloba is still unusual and interesting to me...

Emma - The photos you posted aren't showing the coloration that the seeds that I received have...this could be an artifact in the photo...the seeds I received range from a greyish brown to a greyish black...if you have any Ipomoea cordatotriloba(syn.Ipomoea trichocarpa) or Ipomoea triloba seeds to compare them to,I would recommend a direct in person comparison...
