Contorted/serpentine Black walnut?

Hopkinsville, KY(Zone 6b)

Whadda y'all think about this one ?
I know it's a grainy, poor quality shot. Need to go back with the new camera and re-shoot it before it leafs out again.
This one just happened to catch my eye one day as I was driving down to Knockum Hill BBQ.

Hey Lucky, I like it! It would be a big improvement over Salix matsudana 'Tortuosa'. Kind of like what Quercus robur 'Fastigiata' is to Lombardy Poplar. What'll ya name it? Whatever, you should try to work 'Knockum' into it. The fella up in Scott County will no doubt have some ideas for you.

I'm currently referring to it by the moniker "Striped Bridge Rd."(I don't know who named that one!) - 'cuz it's located at the intersection of SBR and Lafayette Rd.
I'm looking forward to hearing some of the proposed names that this crew will come up with!

'Hiccups'
'Drunken Sailor'
'Mirrage'
'The Wave'
'Snakedance'

Are you going to graft it?

Yes. I've tried to graft it a couple of times in the past, with no luck, but do have a friend whom I shared scions with who got it going, and I cut a few scions last month, so I'll try it again. The owners have sheared off a couple of the large lower limbs since the photo was taken, and it's difficult to reach any decent wood even with a 12 ft pole pruner.

Methinks you've slipped on a syncarp of dehiscent capsules and landed in it. Coming from one proud of his eastern European provenance....

Lucky,

What is so special about this specimen? Does it have more spurs or something?

I certainly would not want more black walnuts than mine are producing this year. They are super, super loaded and they are not little either for the main part....bushels and bushels. Oh. how I wished they were perfect English Walnuts. If I had the latest varieties and a heliocopter to spray them........

Indy,
This one just caught my eye as I was driving past it one day - it's got a subtle serpentine growth habit - less pronounced than, say, the contorted hazel or mulberry selections, but not too much unlike corkscrew willow.

I've not sampled the nuts from this one - I doubt that they're as good as some of the improved nut cultivars I've got growing already; I do have several grafts of it going now, but it's too early to tell whether the serpentine growth habit will be expressed or not.
