good news.....anyone heard any?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Every time we turn on the TV, radio, and even the Hompage of the Internet, the headlines just blare out all sorts of sadistic situations and violence. I really don't want to believe that civilazation is taking that bent....so what I would like to see is any good news out there to share.

I have good news.

My 17yo son started tech college yesterday, he's going to get a degree in server operations. He's going locally so he'll be staying home(YAY!). I picked him up after class and on the way home and for the rest of the day he talked to me all about his day. Key Boarding is tedious but Intro to Server Operations really delighted him and he likes his teachers.

A car spun out of control today on Highway 36. No one was hurt and the driver though embarrased was able to aviod hitting the squirrel he had swerved to miss. The car did land on a patch of weeds by the roadside and even they are fine! :} You read it here because it was not interesting enough to make the papers! :}

Last night in Nashville, the state's Senate tried (again) to impose an income tax against Tennesseeans.

Citizens showed up in protest and the tax bill was thrown down. Hurray!!

My youngest Son got his report card and although he only got a 56 in French he never, ever, has to take it again!!!
The whole house is rejoicing :)

This is wonderful....I LOVE IT!!! Let's keep sharing all these wonderful things!
I just heard from my 26 yr. old son who
moved to San Francisco, whom I had'nt heard from since Christmas Eve. He's doing great now, attending Computer
Engineering and Berkley and is scripting video games. I guess that they can get along without us. Ahh, maturation!

My 19 year old dd is looking forward to her 2nd year at college. She had 3.72 gpa last semester. She is already talking about working on Masters. This comes from a girl who used to hate school and I used to stay awake at nights worrying about her. (Now I just have to worry about tuition $$$).

I have three beautiful children and 2 grandchildren that are happy, healthy, and safe. I have a wonderful husband to whom I have been married 32 years. I have 2 great dogs and 3 loveable cats. I am a cancer survivor that is sooooooooooo thankful that God allows me to go out and play in my garden(s) everyday. Life is Good! :-)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

My house is (mostly) clean today, it's sunny and only 80 degrees out (in July!) and I have a terrific family and a loving Father in Heaven! Not necessarily in that order! ;o) Kimberley

I really needed this "good news" today'I too am a cancer survivor'

Well now, that makes 3 of the 9 posts in this thread Cancer Survivors. I'm a cancer survivor, 8 yrs. out, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't thank God for what he has given me. Every day is a miracle. The best news there is that every day we come close to the cure.

Count another cancer survivor. I'm eight years out also. Gardening has been my emotional outlet and I am so thankful that I've still had the physical stamina to continue. I have a framed message that says "To plant a garden, is to believe in tomorrow." I think that is why I get so much pleasure from my garden. The act of gardening is my unspoken belief that I will be around to experience the results.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Bulblady..your message touched me so much, thank you!!
my mom recently survived breast cancer, i'm thankful every day for that. i lost my grandmother and my aunt to it.
My son (10) has been through 3 ear surgeries in 1 1/2 years. we found out a few days ago that the hearing was not restored to the hopes we had, but the disease is gone, and we are thankful for that.
My husband just got hired on with a local trucking company. his pay will almost double (yippee) (hidden meaning..more plants ) but that means he will be gone alot and with teenage kids that leaves me with a whole bunch of solo responsibilities. and my doctor refilled my XANAX and for that im grateful, lol...just kidding
this is a great thread thank you for starting it Jerrie

I saved a life last week. I guess that's good news. While going to the store with hubby I spotted a big Barred owl that had been hit by a car. He tried to stand up and another truck coming down the road blew him right over the bank when it went by.I made my hubby stop our truck and I got a blanket from behind the seat and down the bank I went with hubby yelling that it would bite my fingers off.I wrapped him in the blanket and held him in my lap while hubby went in and did the shopping. I got a lot of strange looks from shoppers going by and seeing me holding this big owl in my lap.LOL. Brought him home and put him in our shed with food and water and doctored him up a bit. He stayed for two days and then was gone.I swear that's him I heard hooting in the back woods tonight. At least I hope so.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Our local paper featured a family that has 4 children and the whole family gardens, cans and freezes produce, has a roadside stand to sell vegies and flowers and they all love what they are doing. Kids range from 4 to 11. Good news! There is hope for America's kids!

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 8b)

My 2.5 yr old hit the JOHN I called her Mother at work and over the phone we all danced, still danceing JACK.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

LOL Prain, I would have done the same thing, and I bet that owl's gonna be hanging out in your woods for a long time. And Jack, ain't it good news when a toddler finally masters potty training.
Happy gardening all and keep on digging!

If you woke up, today....you just received good news.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Either way for most of us, because we know our Lord will have us in his garden if we don't wake to this world.

Amen, Talon!

What a great thread...so refreshing after reading the newspaper. The "good news" for which I am thankful everyday is my incredible daughter. She completed her doctoral program at Berkeley last year and this year will marry a truly wonderful man. And, nice as those things are, the best news is that she has grown into a wonderful human being. (No, no proud Mother here!)

southeast, NE

I just had to pop in here and tell you all how I laughed at Jack's post. Seems like it was so long ago - I miss those toddler "steps" (well sometimes I do).

Toledo, OH

I guess the "good news" here for me. Is that I'm STILL HERE!! I'm also a cancer survivor. It's been two years now as of April 21st this year for me.

There really are SO many blessings that come from this experience. I'm amazed at what I have learned not only about myself, but the kindness and compassion of strangers.[hello!! everyone here at Dave's Garden]

I do get some VERY strange looks when I say that..But I remind them that "something good always manages to spring forth from something bad"
It's only when you are faced with this...and get past it, however you have to do it, that you can look back and realize how very fortunate you really are.

We just merely have to stop and pay attention to the gifts we are getting everyday. God is leaving a present everyday for us to unwrap and enjoy. It is the day in front of us, the life we still have, and the blessings we expierence with each of those new days.

I am blessed everyday...with the great friendship I have with Elena. She's truly an amazing woman.
I am blessed with a great hubby that I have been married to for 28 years this Sept. Actually? MY HERO after the last two years we have had here. He was _always_ there, no matter what.
Two loving kids and 6 grandchildren. The littlest one here 16 months old. [we have 2 grandkids here/4 in va] She now blows kisses to her papa and I when she is saying goodbye and going home. She comes looking for the hugs before she heads outside to get in the car. She is precious.
Can you tell that I'm an absolute out of control grandma?

Thanks for starting such a great thread. You are so right. There really is not enough good news.
Take care there
God bless you all
ohio-annie

p.s i hope this qualifies it as a "good news" post and I didn't drag anybody down with it...

Good news? IT'S RAINING!!!!!!! After 101* temperatures yesterday, I woke up this morning to heavy rain, thunder and lightening, and wonderful fresh air. Are y'all getting this over your way, eyesoftexas? Hope so. My plants are out there singing hymns of gratitude. Me too.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Ohio_Annie,

Good News for July 16, 2001?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I have a wonderful hubby, and we grow closer by the day. Have a gorgeous, happy 4 month old granddaughter, who we are very fortunate to live close to. Have a 2 yr old gs that calls and says 'hey! gwammy!' and 2 more will be here before the end of the year. My children are all grown and healthy, with 3 happy marriages and one still looking. I have been blessed with the friends I've made at Dave's and life is good. and I think I may have one tiny little itty bitty brug blossom, but won't know for sure for a few days:)

Greenfield, IN(Zone 5b)

This thread reminds of the old Anne Murray song "Nobody robbed the liquor store in the lower part of town...Nobody got drunk...Nobody burned a single building down. etc etc...I sure a glad there's no good news today" Something from the eyes of a newsreporter.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry you feel that way, but what if it was your business that escaped being robbed, it wasn't your house or building that wasn't burned to the ground, your family member that wasn't abused or assaulted, or what if it was your life that was spared. Wouldn't that be good news? Rejoice in what you do have, and we all have something.

Jerrie

Knoxville, TN

I totally agree with you jerry.WOW would'nt it be great to turn on Tv one morning and they say ,"sorry folks we have NO news to report this mornung ,the world was at total peace last night.
God bless luv nana

Oh Nana, soooo glad you're still with us,my dear''You're in our prayers, and hope ya relax and stay in where's it's cool'Sis''

My kids are learnig to swim this summer. I am collecting, loads of seeds. The wildfire near us seems to be under control . We get them all around us, the air was clear, and clean and blue again. My foot is finally loosening up. I thought for awhile there it was going to heal in one position. Our neighbors boy was hit by a car last week, he should have been killed, no helmet. Although a broken shoulder and punctured lung. He is doing well and home.

Knoxville, TN

hey, guys.,I woke up this morning and my moon flower vines
are taking off.lol I am so excited, isn't life grand!!!!

Brownville, NY(Zone 4a)

I looked out the bathroom window this morning to see my dogs and ducks asleep together in one feathered-furry pile. The ducks think they're dogs, and the dogs don't seem to mind...a wonderful example of setting aside differences and getting along...

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Bucky,

Thanks for the great analogy. It is great to see everyone setting aside their differences, whilte at the same time respecting another's opinions. We all do share many of life's joys.....a beautiful sunrise or sunset, morning dew on a flower, fresh rain, and clear blue skys. If we all concentrate on that which we concur on....wouldn't life be grand?!

Jerrie
