Seed Propagation Help, Please

Lucerne Valley, CA(Zone 8a)

Greetings DGers!
I just received some Goldenchain tree seeds (Laburnum x. watererii), and am curious as to what experiences any of you might have had planting and growing this tree from seed. I haven't been able to find much reference to propigation except "easily starts from seed". So....To stratify, or not to stratify?? To knick or not ot knick? To soak or not to soak. These, my friends, are the questions....

My Dirr book on propagation doesn't say anything about stratification,
I guess that means there is none. It did mention that it depends on what time of year it was collected.
It says a 2 hour sulphuric acid soak resulted in 100% germination on hard seed collected later in the year, seed collected in the Summer months is soft and doesn't need scarifying (acid) apparently.
If I were to guess, I'd say the ones you have are of the hard variety.
Before I had my book collection, I found library books to be very useful on those subjects.

Another source concurs on not needing stratification. Although L. x waterii is not listed, L. apinum and L. anagyroides is. See here: http://www.ipgri.cgiar.org/publications/HTMLPublications/52/index.htm
Click on chapter 43 and scroll down to the chart at the bottom.

I'd say just a light scarification and organic mix kept evenly moist with temperatures in the 60's. They germinate freely here below the trees and are a bit of a weed. They love the coastal wet weather and don't like it too hot/dry in summer. I'd also soak them for 24hrs.

Uh, oh!! I definitely have Hot and Dry Summers! If I can get them started, I'll plant them in semi shade!

Thank you EVERYONE for your helpful suggestions and experience!
