Heavenly Blue...I know they're ordinary, but...

Rhinebeck, NY(Zone 5b)

Hi, I'm new to DG and to this morning glory section, but I was playing with pix of my garden last year and came across this pix of my fence covered w/ old fashioned Heavenly Blue morning glories that I started from seed.

I know that they're not rare, but I thought it was pretty and I'd share the pix. Everyone who came into the yard last summer just loved them...

PS: I put the Garden Journal type on the pix because I'm going to use it as the first page of my 2006 garden journal.

Hi daisygrrl (!),

Welcome to the MG forum...it looks like you have the old fashioned 'baby powder' blue color Heavenly Blue growing there...they look nice and happy...the Heavenly Blue have been around for a long time... 'quality never goes out of style'...

Enjoy(!)...

Very lovely! Although Heavenly Blue may be common, they really put on the type of display one might not get from the Japanese types since the JP types are more likely to ramble than twine (IMHO!). Looking forward to seeing more of your photos!

Thanks everyone...I found last year's seed pack and they were "Clark's Heavenly Blue" from the Livingston Seed Company of Ohio. Luckily, there are still seeds left...I hope they germinate this year. And in answer to Tami F: I planted 2 seeds per peat pot about 5 weeks before last frost. I cut off the weakest of each pair. And the picture shows about 3 plants.

This year I'm also going to start Grandpa Otts.

daisygrrl,

I love your picture -- it has inspired me to plant some MG's this year! I live just across the river a bit from you (Orange County). The fairs in Rhinebeck are so fabulous (Iove the wool festival), and it is such a beautiful area.

Wow, great pic. I've got some seedlings growing in my sunroom, some with blooms. I can't wait to plant them outside on the fence like yours. They look wonderful.

Your photo looks like it belongs on the cover of a gardening magazine or catalog "wink" it's lovely~

Thank you! Well, actually, I work in the magazine business...and have dozens of cool fonts on my computer...so i can dress up my pictures pretty easily.

But those glorious blooms: pure mother nature! (plus that green fence my husband put up for me!) I actually think the profusion of blooms were helped by a marauding deer who ate a bunch of the flowers at first...and sort of chew-pruned them in a way that produced even more flowers (I sprayed after that first set- back!).

This year I have more of these Heavenly Blue seedlings on my window sills...and also a variety called Grandpa Ott's. We'll see if I can do a repeat!

Yesterday, I had mentioned to my dad about your photo with MG and described the type of fencing you had to them and how great the picture was that you posted...That was very nice of your husband to put up the fence...

That's funny re: chew-pruning.... well, at least the deer got a good meal...and you got great MG ;)

Oh, that is very kewl re: working for a magazine business! Ya, I collect fonts and dingbats as a hobby :) And also do trading with them as well....

Tks, for the info on the type of MG.... Today, I planted a package of "Flying Saucers" MG

PWT: I just looked up Flying Saucers: what a beautiful flower! Good luck to you.

Tks Daisygrrl,

I saw the picture posted here on MG section..and said..gosh! I think HD carries them...and when we picked up a plant for my Aunt for (Mother's day) I picked up a package of them MG... Im excited, I also have the Moonflowers growing along side of them... so, MG to open in the morning and Moonflowers for the evening! I read that someone had also done that, and I figured what the heck, I'll try it too ;)
