Caladium in coastal southern California

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'd love to hear from anyone with information and/or experience - both positive and negative - with growing caladium in coastal southern California (Long Beach, in particular). Thank you! Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

I'm your neighbor in Hungtington Beach and I have grown some Caladiums.
I had them under my pergola and it stayed pretty damp down there. I don't think they like "dark and damp". lol Many of them grew nicely and some just rotted on me. I would like to think that since we are along the coast, that they might be able to take a little more light or partial shade. I wouldn't keep them in the ground over the winter, especially when we get a lot of rain.

All in all though, they do grow here nicely, just put them in the right spot.

BTW, where in LB are you located? Did you see where we are having a So. Ca Roundup in July? I went last year and had a blast...got to meet some of our local members and we traded for some great plants.

Donna
