Don't you love all the new ideas that come from this site??

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

When I think over all the new ideas and new products, and even second looks at old products and ideas that you guys have so encouraged me to examine, research and try, I know it all keeps me growing and young in mind!!

I was just talking to Mamajack and Barb on other thread and it dawned on me how many new things I have tried this last year especially and how much fun it all has been. From air stones and bubbling (which I had never heard of), H2O2 and its many uses, lava rock, greensand, Messenger, hydroponics, orchid moss, aspirin, lysol, many soil additives and new fertilizer mixes, soil mixes, rooting ideas, germinating ideas, carrying product ideas and even sugar dispensers as a systemic dispenser and on and on and on............. I have had so much fun.

I have learned so much as I tried each new thing even if I found in the end it didn't work the best for me, it still taught me so much and most importantly it taught me about being willing to embrace new ideas and to be just open to whatever is out there. It has kept gardening fresh and my mind active and questioning.

Lots of it didn't even cost much money, just a willingness to try it. I have been rewarded in better ways to do things and also more fun ways. I find too that sometimes a new idea mixed with an old one, can make a great one.

THANKS for sharing all your ideas so freely!!

I'm having fun too!

Don't tell me that's the bird that was crawling up to your shoulder, dragging a piece of paper he kept stepping on? Do tell......

I'm sort of new to DG and real new to brugs. I only have a couple that I started from seed ( and much to my amazement they grew like crazy) and a one I ordered which was about 4" tall. I know nothing about brugs except what I have read here. I can't wait to get more. I want one of everything (this obsession could be a problem). I really would like to know where to get brugs, I saw some on e-bay. Any advise
What I wanted to say is that I really enjoy this forum and you all seem so nice and helpful. I have tried lots of things I have read about, with a little fear, and much pleasure. You answer my questions even though they have probably been asked dozens of times before.
So a great big Thanks from me too.

From this forum that I have tried this year? This year I have hooked up a side-by-side bubbling system to start rooting standards during our short winter months and trialed orchid moss as a seed growing medium.

Kell, there's that lovely flamingo! Did you find a spot for it?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

LOL Susie, not yet. Carol, you think my flamingo is weird??? It is a work of art. I got it at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show the other day. And she is PINK! LOL Susie thinks it is so ugly. I bought it for Susie too. I thought it would scare her alligator off.

So Delisa, did the orchid moss work well for you?? I haven't used it to start my seeds yet just for rooting cuttings.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I went to a garden club meeting this morning. They always have a raffle and I won today. Guess what it was???? You guessed it, a pink flamingo. Mine is pinker than yours Kell!

I was just thinking that same thing Kell. I have learned more in this year and progressed as a gardener - It really is great trying out new things , and then discussing our results, and having some good rolling laughs. I tell ya- my journal is popping from so many shared experiences.
It made me smile one day when I had my reading glasses on, reading the H202 thread, with my morning glory seeds, measuring cups and baggies scattered all over the kitchen like a mad scientist. And the lava sand..that was just plain fun trying to figure that one! I am still using it in almost everything now..(wow do the plumerias ever love it). I have made friends that even though I have never met face to face, feel as though they have been long time friends.

So I am in whole hearted agreement! Ya/ll are a great bunch of people! My enthusiasm feels kid like as I continually look forward to my many visits..

Well....the orchid moss. My dh tells me I am impatient. I thought the seed were not going to come up and couldnt find them in the moss so I used the moss around some LA iris at the side of the house. They were some nice Peanut crosses. I have 10 up so far and they are doing better than the ones I am breathing on all day long in the cups. LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Good luck on your 10 new babies, Delisa.

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks Ada. They are my best crosses and I am just leaving them in the ground for now until the roots are well establised. It makes me want to plant my seedlings outside in the dirt next year.

Savannah, GA(Zone 8b)

I planted seed in orchid moss and thought that it wa not going to come up, to my surprise, one has popped out. Lost my label and don;t know what it is, so it will be a surprise. Maybe there will be more.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I had some seeds planted that never showed, dumped soil into pot, seeds came up, had to wait until they bloomed to try and guess what they might be. sigh.......

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I would find a tall tree and anchor that flamingo in the branches, just as they roost in Florida - really blows folks' minds when they see a PINK BIRD perched in a tall tree! LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I had no idea they roosted in trees.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Me either..what a vision that gives me...!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It kind of reminds me of the roseate spoonbills here. Nothing like looking up into a clear blue sky and seeing bright pink birds flying over.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Kind of like when pink pigs fly, Susie??

Aaaw Kell, it was a true story this time. I can't believe you would ever doubt me.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I never doubt you Susie, that is what gets me in trouble. LOL. And we both know pigs do fly. Though maybe they are not PINK, LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

That reminds me of a scientific kind of story that I need to tell you..........

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. You nut.

Kell that was a nice letter you sent i feel the same way people on this forum have been so giving and especially you you have always responded to my questions you are a joy to have on this forum and your pictures have been great. Bob

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you so much, Bob!! You are so nice to say that. I really work on my photos. I have found a new love in taking pictures. You know I always enjoy your posts too!! Even if they make me feel so cold. LOL

Savannah, GA(Zone 8b)

Kell, I feel like you are a brug pro! When I have asked silly questions, you have answered. Thanks!
I have learned so much from this website, it is thru here that I learned about and became addicted to brugs. I have bought many of the products that I have read about and feel they have added to the success of growing cuttings. I ordered rockwool recently and I made a mistake by not going back and finding Kells instructions. I saturated the rockwool in water. Planted all of the brug seeds in there, don't know if they will come up. I have planted five morning glories in rockwool they came up very quick.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Chris, I am not an pro. After a year of growing them, you too will see how easy they are. They have an incredible survival instinct. You can do so much to them and they live on.

I LOVE rockwool!! I am about to put up some fancy clivia seeds in it tonight. They love rockwool too, no rot!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I have learned a lot also. mainly to persivere,(spelling/) first a computer crash, so got a new laptop. all my stuff lost, gradually getting it together, and a frustrating slow server who keeps clicking me off, but this summer that will change, I am getting DSL NOW if it were not for all the friends I have made in Dave's I would not be so anxiouse to keep things running.so even if I do not post I AM HERE.

Doris

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Oh Doris, I feel your pain. LOL I went thru that last year and it's no fun. I lost so many pictures that I didn't have backed up. Hope you can get it all straightened out soon.

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Never thought about losing pictures!!! Glad you mentioned that.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I had family pictures on a disk but I lost all my flower pics. and a lot of personal data that I failed to back up, and getting bumped off so much didn't help, but I have learned the hard way to BACK UP anything you do not want to lose.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Shoot, I know I really need to do that. I am looking for a website to store my pictures on too. Anyone know of a good one?

Oh Doris, DSL will make a big difference. I love it. Tooo bad about files and your pictures!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

kell I now have a lot of my pictures on Boomspeed and there is also this free one'

I use photbucket and love it. I lost most of my flower pics a few years back when I had a computer crash! Yikes..... So I try to find time to put them on photobucket now.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

THANKS Doris and Brinda!!
I will go look. I have so many I love, I would hate to lose them all. I go around the neighborhoods taking them. I need a class though.

My computer hard drive is filled. I must delete tons now for it won't let me download anymore. It said the system is unstable. So I have been deleting like crazy. My husband bought me a new computer several months ago with more room, 120 GIG hard drive, but we have had no time to set it up. I hate switching computer data. Makes me so nevous we will lose it all.

Look at this one I just took. It is so cheerful. We have had so much rain, I need cheer!

That is bright and cheerful Kell.
We bought new computers at work last year. The boss bought some kind of outside drive to move stuff with and part of it we used the office network to move(but our network is on again, off again, and not reliable). It was a headache and I know we lost some files(the network ate them, we can't find them now)
