Looking for 4 in pots

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Where are your best sources to buy 4 in pots for propigating. I cannot find any locally and I'm running out quickly.

Try using drinking cups instead. Much cheaper.

Well, I guess I could, they don't stand up too good on their own, always falling over, I use the bigger styrofoam ones for the brugmansias and their always getting blown over too by wind or knocked over. I really like the 4 in square pots their sturdy and don't get blown over or knocked over most of the time.

I had a trading partner once I'd send plants she'd send used pots, just the kind I wanted, but I don'tknow how to get in touch with her any more.

I think I"d still like to find the 4 in square pots.

I use a local greenhouse supply company, and you may have one too in yr area. Park seed also sells them. Get the flats as well. They are called 1801's (that the size you want, I think) 18pots/flat. Technically they are 3.5 ". True 4" are 15/flat.

I'll have to check out their prices , thanks tigerlily, I just found novosel nursery too, they sell them also. I'm not really particular about them being true 4 in, just 4 in at the top .

You can put pea gravel in the bottom of cups , but kind of gets messy when you transplant .
Sometimes the roots don't hold the rocks/gravel together to well if dry .
You can also use pieces of fresh clay or broken clay pots .
Stay away from cement / concet [ sp ]

I use the 4 1/2 plastic pots every year for geraniums. They are 4 1/2 inches at the top and taper down. I have never had a problem with them. I grew 94 geraniums last year in them. I have 50 this year growing.

This is the best price I found and in a manageable number. http://www.growersupply.com/4azaleapot.html

kathy-ann, if you use the small styrofoam cups you save on the pots and on the soil, they take a lot less soil than the 4 inch plastic pots.
You are right, they tend to fall over, but if you put them in a perforated plastic tray, and put them in snug, they don't fall at all, that way they support each other.
I even reuse them, since most of the time they don't tear when you take the plant out.
Potting soil is one of my bigger expenses, since i do a lot of potting.

I have a favorite St. Vincent DePaul junkyard that always has old pots and trays of all sizes. Yesterday, I came away with about 25 four inch square pots, 20 larger plastic, a bunch of flats, three large terracotta pots (including one really heavy designer pot), a few odd and ends pots, and a hanging basket...All for $10!! I wash them well and spray them with bleach water to disinfect...

Looks like that growerssupply link has them on sale now. If I read it right, 1000 4" pots for $46.10. Can't imagine getting anything new for much cheaper than that. I use Novosel myself because they are closer and I can get
