Samson woke me up to say good morning to all of you as you get ready for the day, hope it will be a good one

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Top of the morning to everyone!

It's sunny already!! I'm pretty sure spring will come eventtually!!

defoecat~ROTFLOL on your hillbilly Kentucky images! I think of bluegrass, white fences, and very attractive horses!

9kitty~very glad to hear DD is doing well and headed home soon.

Oz~Glad that you and all the other DGers were spared the tornadoes. Even up here it was windy, can't imagine how it was there.

Maria~I greatly enjoyed your blog as well and look forward to more of your story (hint, hint)

darius~ Strawberry shortcake!! I believe there should be a holiday just for eating strawberry shortcake. When we get strawberries here, the first time I will just make strawbery shortcakes for dinner so that nothing spoils the appetite!! I'm already dreaming......

Kelly~welcome back! I hope things start looking up for Bill. It has been a stressfull week or two!

Happy St. Patricks day all!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

If you don't have green on today - you'll get a pinch (teacher speaking here!) Sun is supposed to be out for two days here- wonder of wonders!! I lugged all the plants from the plant stand to lay in the sun for a few hours...They are coming along fine...

Yum, pass the strawberry shortcake!! I bought a tray of strawberries last week, they looked beautiful, but were hard and tasteless...Probably picked green! Can't wait to get into my own patch - however last year it was weed infested, so it may produce little this year.

Defo - laughed at the hillbilly stuff too. Driving down to Fla one year, we decided to take some back roads and did see some of the things you mentioned. We were tisk tisking about it and when we returned home found some of the same!! Rednecks live in every state!

Well, it is cold here with a little of dusting of snow on the ground...gosh it seems like spring is taking forever this year!!

Today I'm off to the huff/puff, then meeting with a credit union guy (the one I canceled on!) We'll see what will happen to my millions LOL

Off to take a shower, do the dishes, make the beds, grab a bite, finish a James patterson book before huff/puff and a stop for a small burger at McD!!

Have a good one everyone! -- O'sarv

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Morning all, just stopping in quick before another day out. Took son to Dr. for check up after the wreck and they have no explaination as to why he is so tired and has muscle weakness. Liver "felt" fine, so this a.m. he goes in for a gazillion blood tests and then I get to once again argue with insurance companys.
Waving at all hope all is great with and for you. T's and P's for those who need them. Happy Irish Day!!!!!!!! ......BBL, I hope,......Lauri

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Is there green beer on the counter this morning? No? Well, that's ok, I don't like beer anyway. We'll just wait for some of Darius's strawberry shortcake.

Our Big Storm that was predicted kind of pooped out as the day progressed and turned out to be mostly slushy rain. Birds were busy at the feeders all day though. Got my sewing done, and cleaned up the kitchen. No more delivery of parts for the dishwasher, so I'm still working on one dish meals.

DD called yesterday and is coming over for lunch, she wanted to go somewhere for lunch but I said I'd make something here and maybe persuade her to touch up my roots. I have a raging case of cabin fever, I may have to resort to drastic measures to entertain myself.
It will not, however, involve housecleaning. I might go through our old bills and do some culling and shredding. Shredded paper makes a great addition to the mulch pile. Ours comes out like confetti, so it breaks down nicely, and I feel virtuous about recycling it rather than having it go into the landfill. (Doesn't take a lot to make me feel good!)

Dcat, I was hoping you had a car bench seat on your front porch so we could sit out there and put our feet up. What a disappointment! LOL When we bought our lot, DH and I were reading through the covenants, and it said you can't park a vehicle on your driveway for more than 48 hours without moving it. Your clothes line cannot be visible from the road. Clothing hung on the line must be taken down within 48 hours. And a bunch of other restrictions that made us just laugh and wonder what kind of people they expected to build here.
My experience has been that most people are the same everywhere, regardless of regional accents, skin color, ethnicity, etc. Except for DG foks who are exceptionally superior!!

Darius, I have to go back and read the additions to Grandma's Apron. Haven't checked it for a long time, and I'm sure there are interesting additions. When are you heading out for your sister's? Hope the visit is harmonious.

Susan, good news about your DD, feeling better and almost ready to go home. It must have been a comfort for her to hear your voice. No matter how old we get, our mother's voice (in my case, two of them) is a reassurance that somebody loves us, no matter what. I was using my mother's scissors yesterday, and mumbling to myself "Did you ever think about getting these sharpened, Mom?" All my memories of my stepmom are good ones. She was a wonderful loving person. My first words to her were "Are you my stepladder mommy?" which became a family story over the years.

Dcat"s story about the daffodils reminded me of her, we always had a shovel and a bushel basket in the trunk of dad's car in case she spotted a plant or something she wanted to dig out of the roadside and take home. She wasn't above doing a little pruning at friends or family homes either. I think I got most of my gardening inspiration from her.

Mary, I know what you mean about getting into a big truck. I feel like I have to haul myself up like an acrobat to get into DH's, good leg first then a big pull to get part of me on the seat....what a chore! That would get your back out of alignment for sure. I'm sure you will be very careful for quite a while about how you move. Is lambing about over? If not, you will have to be careful there too.

Sarv, you are tempting me to get a laptop just so I can watch tv while I mess around on the computer! I have a little one up on top of the roll top desk but the reception is pretty bad. I usually only use it if I've taped something, and since we got the dvr I hardly tape anything at all. I've recorded numerous movies on the dvr but somehow don't seem to find time to watch them. The rescue site always shows pictures of the available kitties, so someone has enough skill to post them! I'm not asking her again until she contacts me.

Oz, those tornadoes were pretty close. Mobile homes really can't survive them, they get tossed around like toys. You are a good fisherman, only keeping what you can use. I've seen guys (mostly city guys) back home keep fish that barely met the DNR requirements proudly show off a fish that wouldn't be more than two good mouthfuls! What a waste. My dad mostly fished for brook trout, or walleyes and I got to clean them.

Tgif, I never got the hang of tatting! I can (barely) knit or crochet, and tatting was just way beyond my skill level. Always ended up with a tangle of peculiar knots! I still have handkerchiefs that my step mom tatted lace borders on. She was a pro at needlework, even in her 8th decade she was doing crewel work . I'll post some photos if you want to see some of it.

Kelly, I think your SO will have plenty to complain about when the snowmobile is repaired. They are never the same after a major crash like that, it's just like cars. They fix them, and straighten them out, but something is always a little off. Glad to hear he found a job right away, it sounds like a good change in the long run. So, you are "ringed" but not tied? Sounds reasonable. DH and I were together for almost five years before we got married, and sometimes I still think they stay more attentive when you aren't married. I have no regrets though, he's one of the good guys. Except when he annoys the crap out of me by buying another vehicle.....LOL

Ha! I crossed my fingers and previewed and it worked. Good luck fighting the insurance co. Laurie, just dig in your heels and make them pay. There is obviously something going on that needs to be checked. Why do they think we have insurance....just so we can have the pleasure of arguing with them??

Well, I'm going to go read Grandma's Apron again, ~~~ to all, see you later today and give you a root report....

Good morning,

This will have to be a quickiie as I've agreed to go into the Food Cupboard for a volunteer who is moving. Need to be there in 25 minutes or so and I'm not dressed yet.

WE ARE NOW ON HIGH SPEED!!!!!! Just had to try out DG before I left for the morning.

Will be back later. Have a good day everyone.

Susan I am not going to springfield today. I found a real nice place in Jefferson city though yeasterday. Bought 3 Heuchera 1 Heucherella 1 Tiarella And 2 Helleborus all for $7.00 each in 8 inch pots. Plants are a bit small but that is because I got them early. They are out on my glassed in porch for about a month till I plant them.

M5 I do not keep but about 20 fish in a entire year. Most of them being crappie are catfish. There is nothing swims that taste better than fillets off about a 5 lb catfish caught in the dead of winter. All the other tournament stuff and what have you is past me. My community is home of some of the best bass fisherman in the world including Denny Bauer and the Hibdon's. But that style of fishing has brought more harm than good to the sport.

Defocat--- What is wrong with Mulit colored pickups, hogs and chickens running loose in the yard and large hounds laying under the front porch. Geee doesn't everyone live like that???? It is just that all these city folks go around with all their "country styles" and such and do not understand the real quaintness of congo wall large flowered wallpaper, missmatched furniture, and linoleum floors in the living room.

Morning, All. I'm wearing my orange today rather than green, orange being Irish Protestants and green being Irish Catholics, LOL.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Darius, I am wearring blue jeans and a blue sweater jeans not a drop of irish in me but to those that have, have a wonderful, lucky day

Starkville, MS

DH asked me yesterday afternoon if I would help keep him out of trouble. I asked him what kind of trouble? He said "Lowe's". My response was "Do I have time to cahnge shoes?!" So, off we went, and returned home with three roses, two 6packs of snapdragons and three orchid pots. So much for keeping him out of trouble!

Now we're off to pick up my Mom for a grocery run for her. She makes me wear both green and orange, so rumaged through the wardrobe and came up with a t-shirt that has both in it. Happy St Paddy's Day to you all!

And a Sammi fix for others....

Thumbnail by meezersfive

Hi everyone!
Haven't got but a sec. Company's due in at 2:00 and today is the DH's birthday. Guess I was the lucky one, huh?

Sarv, I have a bowl of broccoli salad set aside just for you. Enjoy!

Oooh, fishing! I love to cat fish. But then, I've already told that story.

Meezers, I'll be glad when you get your dishwasher parts as I know you'll be.

Susan, so glad your DD is getting along so good and will be coming home soon.

Maria, tell Samson it won't be long now!! Hugs to both of you.

Kelly, so glad to see you back. We always miss you when you aren't around. Glad Bill was able to get that job so fast. Maybe things will start looking up now. You two have certainly had your run of bad luck ... so wear your green today! LOL

With all this talk about strawberries ... think I'll go get the stuff and make a strawberry trifle. That will make a pretty dessert for the company. We're going out tonight so it will have today to set. Always better the second day! LOL

Well, better get out of this chair. Hi to those I've missed. Am waving to everyone. ~~~~

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!!

Top o' the mornin' to ya!

I don't have much time, I'm on my way out, but I thought I'd leave you with a little medical humour. Enjoy! Allow me to preface this joke with my honest intent on not offending anyone from any state or community or political affiliation. I just thought this was funny.

Three Arkansas surgeons were playing golf together and discussing surgeries they had performed. One of them said, "I'm the best surgeon in Arkansas. In my favorite case,
a concert pianist lost seven fingers in an accident, I reattached them, and 8 months later he performed a private concert for the Queen of England.

The second surgeon stated he could easily top that and told of the man who'd lost an arm and both legs in an accident, "I reattached them, and 2 years later he won a gold medal in track and field events in the Olympics."

The third surgeon said, "You guys are amateurs. Several years ago a woman was high on cocaine and marijuana and she rode a horse head-on into a train traveling at 80 miles an hour. All I had left to work with was a hunk of the woman's blonde hair and the horse's back half. I was able to put them together and now she's a senator from New York.

Hugs to ya's, ~Babs~

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good one Babs, except the first time I heard it it was GWB who got put back together....so whatever your affiliation, you can put whoever you want in as the patient.

Yes Elaine, I will be glad when all the parts get here, as will everyone else who is sick of hearing my litany of complaints! I'm sick of hearing myself grumble about it.

Kilt the laundry monster this morning, think he'll stay dead?

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I have been up for ages, but have not accomplished much. Did fix breakfast, but other than that, seem to be spinning in circles today.

Meezer those needle work pictures are gorgeous.

Kittymom, tell DD we send her the best.

101, slow down, the company wants to visit with you, not your house or food.

tgif, if DH wanted to stay out of trouble, he should have let you go by yourself!!

dmc, Hi there, our weather is supposed to turn colder this weekend, stay that way for all of next week. So, garden season postponed again.

Maria, give Samson a hug from me.

Darius, you started the shortcake preoccupation. Now I won't think of anything else until I make my first one.

Morning Oz, Viann,

Sarv, I just wanted to clarify that I am not a Ky. Hillbilly. Some people, when told that you life in Ky, immediately look down to see if you are wearing shoes!! I own shoes, but hardly ever wear any, except in winter outdoors. Hey I read somewhere that Shoe, is one of us shoeless people, think maybe we are kin?

Well, I will check back in later, I am sitting here waiting for 2 phone calls. Of course on dial up, I forward the phone to my cell phone so as to not miss calls. I hate this waiting, seems like it keeps me on a short leash.

BBL

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

LOL Babs - that could apply to a multiplide of people/patients around here.

Hey Darius, I had an orange t-shirt on too!! Didn't know it meant anything tho...I am really ignorant when it comes to things like that.

Back from the huff/puff and stopped at MIL for my Friday visit. She was in a major complaining mood. Told me that they paid DH 4000 and then they had to pay a penalty because they paid him too much - what? I just bobbed my head up and down. She is a real piece...

M5 - wishing that dishwasher mess would get straightened out for you...what a pain in the patootie.

Yikes, I just looked at the clock and I have to meet that young whipper snapper at the credit union. He's gonna tell me what do to with some $$ I have- just so it doesn't line HIS pocket!!

I'll have a green beer later tonight... can't wait

Hi All,
Thanks for all the positive comments. It really helps a lot. The guy that was hired for the warehouse was fired this morning cause Kerry (the co. that causes all the frustrations) didn't like him,,,,ROFLOL. Can you believe it???? I don't know what reason they gave him,,,I'm sure it wasn't that,,,but,,,,OMG Bill heard that and said, yep, I think God got me out of there for a reason. Um Yea,,,,ya think! LOL

Have to admit only having time to skim the posts from yesterday and this morning.

oz,
That's one heck of a lot of Tornadoes. Hope non were really close to you. Great price on all those plants.

dcat,
Had to LOL @ the hillbilly stuff. Could put the same things up about WI,,,with a few that are different.

M5
He Always has something to complain about. Got him a sweatshirt that says "Official Menber of the Pi$$ and Moan About Everything Club" Told him his should say President,,,,ROFL.

Elaine,
Tell DH Happy Birthday. Have a good time with the company.

Babs,
ROFLOL,,,good one!

Hi to everyone else,,,didn't have enough time to comment to all. Will try to BBL

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Good one, Babs. And a happy St Paddy's day to you and everyone.

How many of you are going to have corned beef and cabbage tonight? I bought some when I was at the store yesterday and just couldn't wait so we had it last night. There's lots leftover so we get another meal from it. I cook in larger than needed amounts so I don't have to cook every day.

Kelly, it's good to have you back. LOL at you reintroducing yourself, really it hadn't been quite that long. I hope Bill's new job is twice as good as his old one.

Suzie, good news that your daughter is doing well after her surgery. When you are able to go visit her you will both be able to have some fun. Take care of that arm, don't do too much and take more backward steps than forward steps.

Strawberry shortcake sure does sound good! For whoever bought the beautiful looking berries that were tasteless, sorry you wasted your money. It's disappointing to have your taster all tuned up for something and then have it taste like wet sawdust.

Have fun with your company Elaine, don't work too hard, after all, they do come to see people, not houses and food. I know, it's too late for this time, but think of that in the future. What do you put in your brocolli salad?

Dcat, I'm glad that you are taking it easy today. Got any pictures of the before and after to show us?

Oh Meezer, what beautiful needlework pictures! And memories to treasure as well. Sammi looks like he was just still long enough for you to snap the picture and he probably launched himself. Laundry monster is alive and well here, load #2 is just finishing it's trip through the washer, soon to be drying on the rack by the fire. The laundry is part of the winter scenery around here since I don't have a dryer. There are times and some things I want one for, but there is no hookup or vent for it in the basement.

I'm another one who thinks of beautiful horses grazing or running in rolling green pastures fenced with white painted boards when I think of Kentucky. Of course there was my hubby's uncle who lived like it was 150 years before, old cabin, no electricity, outhouse, chickens and pigs running everywhere including into the house, pail of milk from that morning on the table with a dipper in it, and a turkey tied to his bedpost with a piece of string on it's leg because of the rain that day and he wanted to keep it from looking up into the rain and drowning. Really. That was uncle Frosty. Officially he made his living growing 'baccy, but probably also made moonshine. He and his wife were like Ma and Pa Kettle without all the youngins. As I recall, her name was Maybelle. No, I'm not making this up!

The Grandma's apron thread sure is a look back into history, hardship and adversity. We had tough people back then. I hope people will continue to add their family stories to it.

Waves ~~~ to everybody I missed, I guess sooner or later I get to everyone. Have a great day!

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Great news Susan! Bet that shower will feel great.

Darius - My mouth is watering for a piece of that shortcake. Sounds yummi!

M5 - Great pictures. DM was very talented.

Lauri - Hope they find out why DS isn't feeling well.

ViAnn - Yeah on getting the high speed!

TGIF - When I go to Lowes or Home Depot with DH he has to keep me out of trouble.

Elaine - Enjoy your company. Hope you have a nice visit.

Babs - Good joke!

Kelly - Great to see you back! Don't stay away so long. Sound like the new job is definately a good move for DH. Hope it all works out well.

Tomorrow I am going to a one day Garden School at Rutgers University. You get to pick 4 seminars to attend and lunch for $50.00 It runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. I'm hoping to meet another DG'r there from the NE Gardening forum. Still waiting for her to call or D-mail me back. Sis is also going with me, so will be fun day out,

To anyone I missed, sorry, not intentional.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Mary, the story about your DH's uncle is hilarious... and wonderful!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

|Mary, was DH's uncle from Kentucky? I have seen people like that, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

I am not gonna comment, I am still waiting for that Phone call. Still on the leash. We don't get real good reception on the cell phone.

Just a quick check in.

DS called awhile ago, fixing supper tonight and invited us to come. Whoopee, no cooking.

Two men were sitting next to each other at a bar.

After a while, one guy looks at the other and says, "I can't help but
think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland "

The other guy responds proudly, "Yes, that I am"

The first guy says, "So am I. And where about from Ireland might you
be?"

The other guy answers, "I'm from Dublin , I am."

The first guy responds, "Sure and begora, and so am I. And what street
did you live on in Dublin?"

The other guy says, "A lovely little area it was, I lived on McCleary
Street in the old central part of town."

The first guy says, "Faith &it's a small world, so did I! So did I. And
to what school would you have been going?"

The other guy answers, "Well now, I went to St. Mary's of course."

The first guy gets really excited and says, "And so did I. Tell me, what
year did you graduate?"

The other guy answers, "Well, now, let's see, I graduated in 1964."

The first guy exclaims, "The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I
can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can
you believe it, I graduated from St. Mary's in 1964 my own self."

About this time, Vicky walks into the bar, sits down, and orders a beer.

Brian, the bartender, walks over to Vicky, shaking his head &mutters,
"It's going to be a long night tonight"

Vicky asks, "Why do you say that, Brian?"

LOL at Uncle Frosty!! Brings to mind my aunt (sort of) Ruby, lived in far northern Wisconsin somewhere around Saxon on some old dirt road, don't know if she's still living but I doubt it. She was my Swedish birth mother's relative, maybe a cousin or an in law, but got dotty in her old age. Wandered around the old farm wearing a pair of men's boots, and an overcoat. Would chat with any guy who came by but would never speak to women. No phone. No plumbing. No crops after her husband died. Didn't answer mail. House was leaning south for years, and there were a few scruffy hounds around the last I heard. You don't have to go far out in the country to see bare board houses with tar paper for insulation, and junky cars in the yard. There's always a satellite dish though!

Thank you Mary, she loved to hear compliments on her needlework. I love having them. I have a quilt she and her sister made in the early 40s, so faded and worn from washing and use I wouldn't dare hang it, but I air it out every year. The cotton is so soft, it feels like velour. All feedsacks, and every stitch done by hand.

And,yes, right after I took the picture Sammi made a lunge for the camera strap! He has two manic periods every day. One first thing in the morning, from about 7:30 to 9, and in the evening from about 9:00 until we go to bed. Occasionally there are leaps from the escaping girls across the bed with him in hot pursuit.

I can't respond to everyone tonight, but have read from this morning on.... and enjoyed all the comments. See ya in the morning....

I made strawberry shortcake a few days ago. I like to pour the strawberries and juice on a sweetened biscuit but I don't like the lard or trans fat in shortening in biscuit recipes. I found a drop biscuit recipe in "Joy of Cooking," that uses oil, added sugar and spread the batter in a square pan. After baking, I just cut it up in squares and used 2 squares per shortcake.

Hi there,

I'm going to try to get caught up. This has been a somewhat frustrating day working over the computer. We have the High Speed up and running and I eventually got my e-mail program up and running (I use Eudora). Am working on the Antivirus. I have nearly a year of E-Z Antivirus which is put out by the computer associates people. Works very well with daily updates. But something seems to be conflicting with my e-mail program because I can't run both at once. In order to send or receive mail, I have to disable the Antivirus. Tech support says to hope that it's a glitch in the most recent update which will be solved with the next one. But that's likely to be Monday. COMPUTERS. :-( Can't live with them. Can't live without them. A total exercise in frustration at times. It was observed at the FC that I never cursed except at the computer.

Susan - glad to hear that DD is doing well.

Darius - the strawberry shortcake sounds great. Will be three months before we get good strawberries here.

Kelly - welcome back. I also hope things work out for Bill. Sounds like quite an upheaval.

Defoe - I've seen the sort of places you describe in back woods New York State roads as well. It must exist in parts of Ontario as well, but I think Canadian zoning laws may be stricter. Can't say I've seen as much up here.

Lauri - hope all works out well with DS.

TGIF - hats off to you if you do tatting. DH's grandmother used to tat. I have her shuttle and some thread but have no idea what to do with it.

Sheila - I'd love to see more of your Mom's achievements. High speed makes looking at the photos much easier. I especially like the cat but both are wonderful examples.

Babs - LOL at the medical humour. Also at the idea that one could switch the recipient of the operation.

Defoe - we've had it cold the last several days. they are hoping it might venture a bit above freezing by early next week. I doubt any of us thought YOU were a KY hillbilly. ;-) Still wondering how far you are from Bowling Green.

Kelly - sounds like Bill might be right about getting out of the warehouse at the right time.

earthling - don't remember meeting you. Hi! Are you new?

suzie - have fun at gardening school.

scooter - LOL at the Murphy twins

I went into the Food Cupboard this morning to sub for one of the interviewers. She's a neighbour of mine. Her husband has Parkinsons and they've just bought and renovated a neglected bungelow on the street - essentially across the street from the large 2-story house they've lived in since the mid-70's. Today was the day they had to finally be out of their house though the mnove has been going on for a week. The new house is not quite ready to live in (kitchen and bathrooms weren't ready when I saw it on Tuesday), but all their belongings are there. They've been staying over night at their daughter's house. And a small army of neighbours have been there most of the week cleaning the old house and persuading Diana to part with some of the items. I was there yesterday morning for a few hours helping clean out the second fridge which will be left in the basement but the time I put in was minimal compared to several of the others.

Successor at the FC still needs help with month-end totals, but the computer wasn't free today while I was there. He still wants me to come in some time other than when I'm scheduled to do so. Well, Monday I've got aquafit and in the afternoon a Dr. appointment. I've told him NEVER on Tuesdays. I guess it's never on Thursdays too since I'm on Kindermusic duty for the next several weeks until DH is strong enough to take the grandtwins to their class. I guess I'll have to e-mail him and let him know that for the foreseeable time, he will have to make himself available on a Wednesday.

Aside from that, he was quite pleasant and receptive to suggestions in regard to some of the files I handled when talking to clients today. We also pulled out the files which need to be shredded - clients whom we haven't seen for two years. They hadn't been pulled since early November (they have a way of coming back at Christmas) and the stack was nearly three inches high. Bear in mind that probably 30% had a cross reference file attached, but it's still an impressive stack of files.

This afternoon I met with the other co-chair of the church committee to decide how to spend the money. I guess by the time everything is settled, the total will be close to $400,000. The church already has $280,000 which has been invested. We're looking to have the first committe meeting by the end of the month.

I guess I've nattered on long enough. Hope you all have a good night.

Hey, woodspirit ---- Congratulations! I just read on your other thread that you got the job. Everyone here has been rooting for you of course.

I met two of my great-grandmothers when I was pretty young, but don't have many memories of either. One of them didn't speak English (and I didn't even have a glimmer of understanding of French at that time) and the other was quite elderly and losing her sight, hearing, sense of taste, etc. I was quite close to one grandmother who lived with us up until I hit my teenage years. We saw another one occasionally, but I never really knew her very well. Now when it comes to aunts, anybody interested in a used one? I wouldn't mind trading a couple of them in.

M5, thanks for the Sammi fix. The needlework was well worth viewing as well.

V-ann, welcome to the world of high-speed internet. Once you have it, it really spoils you for dial-up ever after.

D'cat, glad you slowed down today. You were making me dizzy! Liked your descriptions --- it never occured to me that just because you live in Kentucky that you might be lacking in certain amenities (like indoor plumbing, etc). Actually, a former friend of mine had cousins who lived somewhere down south who didn't have the aforementioned as of a couple of years ago.

Oz, so sorry about your friend's loss ---- at least there was no loss of life. Glad that you and yours were spared the brunt of those storms.

101, enjoy your company and the celebration of your DH's birthday!

Darius, hope things work out well with your sister (or wherever your travels take you). I hope you do have alternative plans in case DS gets persnickety again. You have no lack of friends and offers of hospitality here anyway.

Lauri, just stand your ground! Insurance companies only like to take money in --- not pay it out. I hope they can find out soon what might be causing your son's problems. My DH and I were hit by another car as we were stopped at a red light a few years ago. I was only bruised, but he was really hurting. The hospital was all set to send him home after taking Xrays, saying he was also just bruised, but when he stood up he turned white as a sheet and nearly keeled over. I raised a stink and they re-did the Xrays from a different angle. After that they put him in intensive care with a heart moniter overnight because they discovered that his sternum was broken and pressing on his heart. Even a thorough "once over" may not be enough to really see what's going on.

GG, sounds like a good thing that your SO was let go from that job. Hopefully his new one will turn out to be much better than the one he just left.

~~~~~~~~~~~Waving hi to tgif, Maria (and Samson), suzieq, scooter, sarv, earthling, Babs, and Mary.
As usual, I'm pretty tired. Tomorrow's another work day for me, so goodnight --- see you all tomorrow.
Hi all, I am back. Finally got that phone call. It is DM's Dr. I have made her an appointment for Monday, and wanted to fill him in on some issues before the appointment. DGD is spending the night with her close friend here, Jenna. So all is quiet, except the constant noise from the tv as DH is watching all the NCAA ball games. Listening to him grouse about the Ky players as I type. It's a close game, and he gets really into the play.
Viann, didn't mean to ignore your inquiry. Bowling Green is a good 4 hour drive from here. It is in Western Kentucky, and I am in North-Central Ky. That part of the state is really beautiful. It is Mississippi Delta country. They are the really flat part of the state. Last year the Ky RU was held in that area. There is a quilt museum in Paducah, and it is a really nice place. That area has numberous antique shops, and then there is the man made Ky/Barclay lakes, which offer the best fishing in the state. They are approximately 50 miles apart, and the real estate in between is called Land between the Lakes, and is prime. If you own land there, the inheritance value is monumental.
Woodspirit, why are you not sharing your news here? Go on and post it, or you will force me to do it for you. Last chance.
Babs, enjoyed the medical humor, and the bar humor from Scooterbug.
To all who have posted about the "hillbilly conditions" Let me say that I know that this problem is not confined to Kentucky. All states have it. I think that it is an economic and social issue. There is a family who lives about 1 mile from me who is the quintessential example of hillbilly living. I think the problems stem from lack of education, and depending on the welfare system to get them by. Any person with education, ambition and self esteem strives to be "all they can be", not to take the Army slogan. Have you noticed that in trying to attain status, we all strive to have more than our parents had? Or to give more to our children, because we didn't have it growing up? That mind set went a long way, but I think that we have peaked, and need to go the other direction for awhile. Let the children earn it, and stand back and applaud their success. Whew, off that soapbox!!
Meezer, those needlepoints are fabulous. You are so lucky to have them. In this day and age, the art has been almost lost, and they are precious heirlooms.
Mary, is corned beef and cabbage the menu of choice for the day. Well, didn't have it, so does that mean my life is jinxed for the next year? Glad to hear that you are taking it easy for a few days. Like a mini vacation. I am of Irish descent, but not Catholic. Does that mean I need to wear orange or green? Leave it to Darius to inform us of this.
kittymom, sounds like DD is doing well. Hope it continues that way.
This afternoon, went out and took a walk around the yard. Have many things that are "showing their heads". I noticed that some Asiatic Lilies that I planted last spring are coming up. Since I dug all of the glads, I know that is what they are. I have had a 7 year battle with digging up Lioriope. Today, dug 12 clusters of it that had come up beneath the shrubs. I have a neighbor who wants it, so I will turn it over to her to do battle with. I planted 7 plants of it when we built this house 12 years ago. I decided that it was growing too much for the area it was in so moved some, and every year, have more to come up. It has long runners, and bulbs, So if anyone is interested in this scourge, let me know and I will send you some.
Well, it is late, and I need to get off the chair and head to the bedroom. Will check in tomorrow morning before heading out to do some errands.
101, please wish DH happy birthday from me.
Hi Darius,
Thanks for the well wishes for Bill before.
M5,
LOL @ Sammi's ongoing antics,,,what a little stinker. But oh so loveable,, Your Moms pics are wonderful. Looks like she really enjoyed her craft.
wood,
Hi there. Your recipe sounds good also,,,,Actually ANY Strawberry Shortcake is good in my book,,,LOL
Ann,
That sounds like a huge pain in the patootie! grrrrrr. One of the times I was having trouble with my first puter. After a few hours of trying different things I finally went out to the garage, got the BB gun and started pumping it. Bill came running over and said, "Honey, give me the gun" I said, "Nope, I'll give that &%*$# computer a reason to not work. He finally grabbed the BB gun from me and told me to turn the puter off and take a break. I turned the stupid thing back on later and it worked just fine. That's when I Really wanted to shoot it. LOL Thanks, yes it has been quite an upheaval.
Now the office gal wants to quit. Her husband told her if she really couldn't stand it, quit. She called down to Pittsville where the main warehouse is and asked them who they were sending to replace her,,,,ROFLOL,couldn't believe she actually did that. She is pretty serious from the sounds of it. She was supposed to take a vacation day today, but her desk got swamped from yesterday, so she Had to go in. She said she is going to take her weeks vacation and then quit.
Well, beter get to bed, early mornign in the Salon.
GG sounds like the former workplace for SO was a powder keg, and it is finally going off. Glad Bill got out when he did!! God does work, sometimes we are so blind that we don't see it at the time, but farther along, we are able to look back and see that it was all for the best.
