Does anyone know if carolina buckthorn will produce berries with one plant, or must it have two?
Carolina Buckthorn
Hey There! Would you please post a few photos of what you are referring to as Carolina Buckthorn. Get me some nice close ups because I'm not as good as V V.
Here is a link: http://www.floridata.com/ref/R/rham_car.cfm Mailordernatives has them for sale.
The flowers are hermaphrodite. You don't need to buy another one.
But you'll get better pollination and fruit set with two or more

We have plenty of fruit on an isolated plant here, but it probably varies with the individual. It's a great species with rich fall color -- and at least we can say "buckthorn" here without having Evilibrium wet her pants!!!
Hee-hee-hee!!!

FYI- Rhamnus caroliniana is not hybridizing with the ickies!
Talk about wetting one's pants-

Lemme see... how long until a 'Raspberry Tart' cultivar of Albizia is released so every one can beg, borrow, and steal to get their hands on it? And then how about another catchy cultivar called 'Sensational Dream' or 'Tickle Me Pink' or "Mocha Mesmerizer' to hybridize with the straight species Albizia we've alread got plaguing the land and then another and another and another? Personally, I'd love to see a cultivar of Albizia released that somebody dared to name 'Ignorance Is Bliss'. It could be advertised as a buy only 1 with the assurance you'll be receiving a Silk Tree of a lifetime guaranteed to be the gift that goes on giving for you as well as the next few generations.
I just ordered a Carolina Buckthorn, can't wait to get it ! Should it do okay in full sun in zone 8 or should I give it some shade?
Part or full sun will be just fine.
Hah! I really know how to pull her chain, don't I?
When you try to go to sleep tonight, think Alllbizzzziaaa, Alllbizzzziaaa, Alllbizzzziaaa, Alllbizzzziaaa . . .
Hee-hee-hee!!!
But that 'Ignorance is Bliss' name is catchy, I gotta admit!
