When do I fertilize my Redbud, Weeping Crabapple and other trees and shrubs?
And what kind of fertilizer should I use? I live in southeast Texas in zone 9a.

When do I fertilize
Normally here, it's late Feb/early March, while they're still dormant. I'd guess for you it's at least a month earlier. But it's certainly not too late now.
After a soil test shows it is necessary, and not before!
Most trees and shrubs never need any at all, unless the soil is exceptionally poor.
Resin
I agree with Resin. Angela, spend your money and energy on mulch and water, not fertilizer, unless you have a nutrient imbalance or deficiency. One exception might be to stimulate lush top growth, if that is desired, by applying Nitrogen at 5 pounds A.I. per 1000 square feet. But that's not always a good idea because it can create an imbalance in the root/shoot ratio and can predispose the tree to pest problems.
Guy S.
Ok got it guys!!! WOW you all are too kind to help me out. I think my soil is balanced
so seems like I don't need to fertilize. I will take Guy's advice and save my money,
perhaps buy another tree/shrub instead!!! (LOL)
Have a great day all.
Angela
