How many containers?

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

Just curious: how many containers does everyone have so far?

I have 75 out there and still have a few annuals to do. Is anyone in zone 6 sowing annuals yet? I've done some hardy and half hardy ones, but still have to do zinnias, nicotiana, gazania, 4:00, impatiens, and a few others that I can't remember now!

Well, does a flat full of cells count as one container or 8? :)

Three flats with 8 cultivars in each, then 11 jugs of single cultivars. Total: just 35.

k-- sounds like you are having some pretty good luck despite the severe storms this week and are still going at it.

I have pretty many covered roasting pans out there (soaking wet) and other odd ball containers...here's a pic of about a third of them.

I am starting on my zinnias and other tender annuals: I have a wide range of tender seeds and vines to plant for my hummingbird and butterfly garden... morning glories, campsis, dutchman's pipe and many, many, others.

I am hoping we get a few days of mild sunny weather to dry up my Wintersowing containers a little. Just looked outside and there's lots of sunshine (at the moment!)

I have 47, but I'm not done yet.

Karen,
As of today I have 79 containers and I still have about 25 left to do. I have done some of annuals.(Balsam, Chinese Forget-me-not, Bachlor Buttons, Asters, Nierembergia, Five Spot, Cosmos, Nigella, Datura, KMOTGG) I still have some perennials and annuals left to do. My plan was to scale back this year in my wsowing but once I got started I thought well just one more container. Oh well, they will all find good homes.

Oh my gosh Shirley ROFL. That is how I felt last year with way over 200 plus containers.

Shirley - great pic - isn't it wonderful when all the seeds sprout?

Sowed 15 more.

Hello, my name is Zeppy, and I'm a winter sowing addict...

Zeppy: this is certainly no place to turn for help with that addiction

I've sown 48 containers so far, but they are leetle containers! I just have a few more annuals to sow, and have to decide whether I'm going to do peppers this year.

That count is way down for me - last year I did 126 containers. With my limited space, I spent more time potting up plants to give away than I did planting for myself.

I just reached the 195 mark with a lot of annuals to go yet. That is the most I ever did and I still have some more to do and more seeds coming in!! OH MY! What am I thinking!!

I did a lot of 4" pots this year with something different in each one. I crammed a lot of seeds in them in case some don't germinate. I'm in big trouble if they do that's for sure.

luvs,
Wow 195 containers way to go! You will have lots of fun come Spring!

Michelle, if they all germinate I'm gonna have a sore back come spring!!! But it will be worth it.

St. Peter's, PE(Zone 6a)

It will be worth it and I hope we get to see lots of pics because your gardens will be filled with lots of blooms!

WOW - you have been a busy beaver!!! How did you find the time?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I do a couple a day. I started in mid Jan. with my hollyhocks and some perennials. Working on the annuals now. One good thing about this is, I could never buy all that and some of it you can't get at nurseries any way. That's why I love seeds and WS!!!

Shenandoah Valley, VA(Zone 6b)

I hear you. I made the mistake of looking through the JL Hudson catalog and then the Select Seeds one. Two fat orders later, I'm trying to gather enough containers to sow a bunch more. Sigh...

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

As of today, I'm up to 125 containers. Last year I ended up with 225ish, so I'm behind this year. But I'm sowing a bit more heavily per container, and at the same time cutting back on how many containers of each seed I sow. For instance, last year I had about ten milk jugs of agastache, and every single darn seed germinated! Well, at least it seemed like it, lol. I had agastache coming out the ears.

So this year I learned that I don't have to sow ten jugs, just two. I'm also putting about 16 to 20, maybe even 25, seeds per milk jug, as compared to my usual dozen seeds per. I'm operating under the delusion that this spring I actually will get everything planted out in time and the little seedlings won't need as much room as usual. Yeah right...

I tried to sow thinly but apparently I got more seeds in some than I wanted. The clarkia is a sea of green. My husband calls that one my chia pet!

I've sown about 35. but still adding more.
I'm loving this. I tell everyone about it, they all look at me as if i'm crazy..LOL.. oh well, their loss. My DIL's have complained my containers make our house look shabby, and i had better plant them all...blah, blah, blah...They're like the yard police.
Wait till they see my plants this summer....Big fat raspberry to them...LOL.
Of course i'll share my wealth, (just to rub it in a little) LOL. Just kidding.
But this summer i think i might go to my sisters apt while she's at work and plant some plants outside her door or leave Big containers.

Ness ;-)

( i bought a white flowering dandelion for my butterfly garden but as an added bonus, it will drive my DIL to distraction...LOL) He hates it when i leave the clovers in my garden bed...i like how they smell. LOL

ooops... I thought that was Daughter in Law.

I have about 100 with more to go. :)

I'm already thinking about when I'm going to rent the sod cutter to make room for lots of this!

Nessie girl your threat to leave big containers outside your sister's apt reminded me of a practical joke someone played on a woman I know. She was going on and on one day at work about how much she hated a certain kind of shrub, so a few days later her friend and co-worker went to her house in the middle of the night and actually planted one of them in the middle of her front lawn!

missgarney,
ROTFLMAO, I love it!
Now i'm going to be listening acutely to what my family says.....hahaha!

soulgarden.... youre probably right, i'm a newbie, but in this instance that was my reference. sorry bout the confusion. I was being facetious with the Dear.
(i'm too young yet for the Daughter in law so that didnt even cross my mind.)
and i love the sod cutter idea.
