I don't get out much . . .

Illinois, IL(Zone 5b)

I never look at other forums because I don't have the time to get hooked on them! So I was unaware that anything like this existed, until two people just now directed my attention to it:

Is there any interest out there in arranging one of these for tree/shrub forum folks here in the Midwest?

Yes, I'd attend a get-together like that.

Yes, I would attend if it wasn't too far for the Chicagoland area. Hows abouts the Morton Arboretum????

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Is this something where everyone gets sprayed with roundup??

Presque Isle, WI(Zone 3b)

Not everyone, only those who have to clear APHIS.

If it's just us from trees, I could host it and I'm real close to both the ChiBo and Morton.

Resin, if you want to come on over to our side of the pond, you would be welcome to stay with me and I'm sure there would be others you know spending the night here. No spraying anyone with RU though but if you feel the need to spray any, I can most certainly provide you with plants in need of being sprayed.

Hey Redcoat -- it would be a very long trip for you, but maybe we could at least send you a group photo and tell you the local temperature in Farhenheit, and you could send us a photo of you in your garden with the temp there in Celsius!

Evilibrium, if you have time to set up something like that and we can schedule it WAAAAYYY in advance, please count me in. Perhaps we can draw some folks from a broader area if we give everyone plenty of lead time and make it in an off-season (if there is such a thing). I could also get inexpensive accommodations for us at the Riverbank Lodge here in Petersburg if that would be more likely to be doable for some of the sutherners, and we could do a local tree tour. You just have to promise to leave my Albizia alone!

I heard they are having one of those round-ups in Janesville (Wisc) this summer, but I suspect it will be populated by people from all the forums. The only ones I "know" are you tree folks, so I might feel lost there.

Scheduling far in advance might enable me to attend. I got notice by Dmail of a RU next month in Iowa, but that is simply not enough notice for me. Six months or more would be good. SB

If Resin is coming, we have to get Ron B. to come too. The oil and water effect would be so entertaining! Seriously, to wander the Morton Arboretum with tree geeks would be fun. Having Resin ID all the misidentified trees would be even more fun(although I think they finally changed the Pinus wallichiana 'Prairie Giant' to the hybrid with P. strobus).

If anyone hits the Lotto, we could all go plant exploring in China!

I could make the time to help organize however if there is a lot of interest, we need to take a vote as to what area the majority of people would want to be in and then we need to take a vote as to what month we would want to get together. I'm thinking Wisconsin might be best because of all the folk from Minnesota but then on the other hand, what about all the people from Arkansas and Louisiana and then the group from Kentucky and southern Ohio and then the good folk from Maine and Virginia and then Georgia and SC and then... I guess the best way would be to ask anyone who is interested in coming to pick a state that looks doable for everyone who expresses an interest. From there, we could just have everyone vote. The State with the most votes gets it and we can look up Botanical Gardens and Arboretums in that state and take it from there.

I think Ron should stay at the UBC Botanical Garden and Plant Research Centre Forums.

Can't see that I'll be able to make it, my swimming ability isn't quite up to the Atlantic, but thanks for the offers!

I think this sounds like a lot of fun! I'd come if I had a month or two notice. Equaleverything has a good idea. It would be great to be near Chicago. But I like the idea of taking a vote...

I don't think there's much chance of Ron B coming since he lives on the West Coast. But, it would almost be interesting to see what 'Mr. know-it-all' looks like. HE HE...

Illinois, IL(Zone 5b)

I think I do know what he looks like. I met someone once who I am pretty sure is him. But I agree -- let sleeping dogs lie. He had a lot of info and was always looking up more for us, but his attitude spoiled the ambiance of many threads.
