Incredible find!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I was putzing around today and we went to a local nursery we don't usually go to.
Well we looked all around outside then went in. I found 2 LOVELY new friends to come home with me (well three if you count my new agave pup)
I bought Rob's blue socks which was named and IS blooming true.
The also have everfloris (evergace and everlove) Which I already have..one seemed to have sported as the blooms were not the right color.
But I also bought a variegated Optimara....I think it is either friendship, modesty or compassion.
I am going to go take a better look at it now and see if I can figure out for certain which one.
I picked it up because the variegated optimaras seem so rare :) Now this is my second variegated one.

I am almost positive it is nann.....From the description on FC ..it seems the only one that fits :)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

(Laugh) It was funny Joanne...when we went in I was looking at themm..then seen they were 6.00 but I was shocked to see variegated ones in any store. I never have around here...So Chris says get one if you want one....so I plucked the variegated one...I haven't ever had an optimara that was variegated before my trinidad.
Then cashing out they had a little basket with minis..the only one with a label was Rob's blue socks and he was just a stellar example of one....So I snatched him up too.. I just can't believe it :) Over the moon with excitement here right now :)
The other minis were adorable also but no other ones had names which I found odd.
They also have evergrace and everlove which I have for 12.00...but one of them seemed to have sported..it had blooms that were reverse of what they should be..they looked more like rob's boondoggle flowers.....more white then fuschia..which I found odd.

Here's the picture. I love this plant. I've had it about 4 years. When the weather is cool and you are cheap like me and only keep the heat at 65 the variegation gets really pink. This plant is not as large as Ma's Debutante but it is getting close. The purple blooms are very striking against the variegation of the leaves. The serrated edge has become more pronounced over the passed two years.

Wow..Nana..that is a show stopped of a plant!
So would it be wrong of me to put modesty on this one? I have researched my heart ouf andto me...that is the only option really :) LOL..or should I put modesty look alike?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry FC has 8 variegated Optimaras
do a search you can see them better yourself.
Your so lucky Lorry !
ISOLATE :))

Silver Spring, MD

Did it have Optimara labels or wrapping? Most of the plants in HD and local nurseries are from optimara. They probably have the largest wholesale shipping. Even Canadian growers use Optimara.

I think I would put "like" on the pot until the plant is established and then compare it when it is a little more mature.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL they are both well away from everyone :)
and I di search on FC and the only one it totally fits is modesty.
It is the only one with red underside (mine has)
Serrated (mine has)
variegated cream and pink (roger that)
Though I didn't know if we should ever put a name on them if it was not originally on the tag.
this is about the only optimara I have brought home that I am confident enough to call it by a name I found :)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh yes Nan..it is DEFINITELY an optimara..it has an optimara tag on it...and was in an optimara wrapper :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well Optimara says go to their web sight to ID
And there are only 8 variegated Optimara plants. And only one looks just like yours.
Are you going to sell it, show it, tell someone it's something it's not , is the African violet police at your house ?
If you say yes to any questions above I say no it can't have it's name. lol
Just kidding I'm sorry if you think it is and you want to it's your plant.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

good golly miss molly those are beauties.

nanna you amaze me with the size on your babies!

Lucky duck find Lorry! WOW on the leaves of the optimara who-ever-it-is.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL nope...just looking for a name for it so I can share with my friends here.
You are too funny Allison :)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Yeah..I was in shock to find these lovelies :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Laurie sends me noids and says looks like.
ut Lorry you know your plants is Optimara, it's variegated. Only 8 verigated Optimaras and only one that looks just like yours . My opinion it's safe to name it.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

My opinion on this one also Allison :)
I can't believe I got one of only 8 varieties..How exciting!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I know. I was thinking of ordering their leaves from Selective Gardeners . as you never can find the plants. The leaves are expensive but I figured a way of getting all the variegated ones :))
Nanna where did you get yours ?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Well Allison ..you are welcome to leaves of mine if you want them. You know that girl :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thank you I'd love some and any of your little optimaras :))

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok..Did you also still want some of the variegated goldfish plant?
I will box up a couple of every optimara I have..that I didn't get from you LOL
Witchita, pawnee, maya and arapahoe from the indian series
Modesty and little crystal (or do you have that one?)
Did you also want some of the trinidad? LOL I am not so sure it is what it says it is :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ok I shouldn't I have no room and I keep buying I can't be helped. lol I say yes about Trindad also. I also like to see if it can be progated by leaf and sucker !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok and the goldfish plant?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes for my Step Dad :)) No rush

Silver Spring, MD

I got my Modesty from Home Depot about 4 years ago when they were still buying from Optimara. Most of the plants they have now are from Canada and there is no way that I know of to identify those coming from Canada. Although Johnson's Nursery in Kensington hand some Optimara about two or three weeks ago that were from Canada but Labeled Optimara "Collectable Varieties" I didn't by any too expensive at the Nursery. I'd much rather order directly from Selective Garden and pay shipping.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Ali, one that I got while on my way back to Miami was marked Optimara 'Candy' so I have at least one with a name.

I found it on their 4 inch poster link(it's a pdf file)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

It's not in Fc but that dosn't mean anything lots of them are not. Did you look at Optimar web sight ?

Silver Spring, MD

I've seend the picture of Candy on the ID chart at Optimara. Very Pretty

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

yes, i found it on there. I still need to try and ID the others.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

o you have the link I'd love to see it. Candy sounds pretty ! Is it one I got ?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

No, I didn't have the name of the leaves I left for you, but when I send the Chimera to you I'll put some in. It's ID is correct, flowers look like the one marked Candy on the web site. So that's pretty cool.

If you go here http://www.optimara.info/
and scroll to the bottom and click on the middle blue link that says 4" poster , it will down load a pdf file with photos of named varieties.
Candy is on the top row

ODDLY enough their AV named Chico SURE looks like my AV that we thought was sporting to a chimera. Compare the two.

Here's mine
