In my area some hellebores are blooming; how long will it take for the seeds to be ripe?
Hellebores seeds
gloriag, I think about 90 days, be careful when you open the seed pods, I got a nasty rash, now i use rubber gloves. the seeds have a hard waxy coat if i remember right, I haven't tried to start them indoors because they have been self sowing, I have babies everywhere. lol hostajim1
Oh how they do self-sow!
I think I've been pulling them up thinking they were weeds . They come up with those two roundish leaves that look like so many nasty annual weed around here before they start showing the jagged foliage you'd expect. So many of them!
I'm amazed at how wide an area the're coming up in, too. I've taken some peaty potting soil and scattered under my plants to help the seedlings along and cover any exposed seeds. i also trimmed the old foliage from around my clumps to allow light in and help hidden seedlings along.
Good luck!
Robert.
