Nanna you have the most beautiful plants ! Their so perfect looking , they look like silk. You sure can grow perfect plants and nice displays and pictures ! Thanks so much for posting them. I am enjoying them much !
I love them all but Cambridge Missey is my favorite :))
All your plants are grown so fine !

Silver Spring, MD

I love Cambridge Missey as well. I just about lost her. I had to trim her back to almost nothing. This is the first time she has bloomed since I trimmed her back. I trimmed her because the leaves were out of control--going every which way. The come-back took about 4 months.

Just one more picture, I promise. These are AnnaBelle and the 4 little indians, I received from Optimara last month.

beautiful nanna, you have the gift with Av's also.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

OH your Annabelle and little Indians are Stunning. I love the bells also the shade of blue Annabelle has is very striking. I'm so glad I got mine in time.
It was a Special now all you can get is leaves. One set for $ 8.00.

Silver Spring, MD

I had no idea they wouldn't keep selling the plant. Sure glad I got mine when I did. I lost lots of blooms with cold burn but the plant is doing very well. I repotted, yesterday. Did you notice the little wicking wells the Indian Series are in.

While I am here I want to thank everyone who encouraged me to use Murphy's Oil Soap and lysol. Big difference. The plants are looking healthy again. The leaves are shiney and the color of the blooms is vibrant. Love it. Thanks to all.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Nanna
Those are the wells I was talking about. The wick is different. I bought one to try when I got my Annabells plant. I think I like them and may get more for my minis :))
Yes I am glad I got mine ! They have a different special now and I'm sure they will have something for Mother's Day !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

nan - great pics. I love the doilies too!!!

I've started with the Soap/Lysol too!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Nanna
Your noid looks like a Russian plant I paid about 8.00 for the leaves they came not too healthy looking :( I love the blooms !
Also looks like to me
Optimara Chagall (8945) 01/31/2001 (Holtkamp) Single-semidouble white/variable dark blue patches. Medium green, plain, glossy, hairy, scalloped/red back. Standard

That's it Allison. Do I label it as such or do I say "looks like"?

Silver Spring, MD

I checked the picture in Optimara and on the AVSA site. Chagall's coloring is different on these two sites than the picture you posted. But it does look like the picture you posted. Is you picture from FC?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Love em Nana :) Especially the optimara Mini..Coolies!
Hehe I want leaves or a plantlet if you ever have some to spare (wink)

Lilburn, GA

Nana, they are gorgeous!

I have a question: do you keep your plants in that place? (last picture, plants by photo frames).

I am thinking of putting some of mine on table tops but I am afraid it will be too dark. But the places I want to place them have about the same light as the one on the photo. Don't they grow leggy if left there?

thank you!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh Nanna, your NOID ! Drool! Slobber! what a cutie pie and those bloom colors! WOW.

All of your plants are so large and healthy. Can't wait until I can have more than one that is large. All of mine are so small (except for the new Opti's I got in FL.)

Nice work, patting you on the back! Then giving you a big squeeze hug!

edited to change the above to NOID.

I think we should start a forum about crochet for beginners. It is the first time in my whole life that I regret not knowing how to do it .:o((

Silver Spring, MD

Thanks all.

The plants on the table with the pictures seem to do well in the late spring summer and early fall because there is lots of light in the diningroom at that time. They do not fare well the rest of the year. I usually trade off plants from the dining room to the lighted stand.

Those plants are just new so I will wait for the first repotting to set or trade leaves. That should be in about another 3 or 4 months.

As for crocheting; there are many great do it yourselve books, but I have found at least with my daughters, one on one is the best way to learn. I'd check out AC Moore, Murphy's or any craft store. They usually have free "Learn How To" session if you buy the things you need from them. Spider, I do hope you learn how to crochet. Hand work of any kind is very relaxing for me, that is once I know the mechanics.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Nanna I say give it the name ! Sure looks like it to me. Yes it's frome First Class. There were two pictures .
The other one looks so different. No wonder it's so hard to ID then. Optimara tells you to go on Line to ID them !

Lilburn, GA

Thank you Nana. I will check it out!

great pix!!!! I love your plants. Very healthy. : )

I bought a book by this company when I needed to cover up a mistake on the scarf I had knitted. The book was basic crochet for kids but they have a web site with great info.
Here it is http://www.anniesattic.com/

and here's a stitch guide too http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?type_id=S

Gorgeous plants, Nanna!! WOW!

Allison, I'm going to disagree with you... which I don't often do! I would keep your noid name for it (which I love, anyway) &/or call it "Optimara Chagall lookalike." There are so many unnamed seed-grown AVs, and I've seen that pattern of color in the blooms fairly often at Home Depot etc. It's very hard to tell from photos & descriptions about exact colors -- descriptions are subjective, and digital camera photos are often "off," especially with blues and purples, and flowers can vary from one bloom to the next due to cultural conditions etc. I have an AV that looks pretty much identical to the photo you posted, but you saw mine (or at least a faded bloom of it) and said it was definitely different.

Thank you very much Begonia!

Well Jill everyone has different opinions and Optimara puts on their pots go to their web sight for ID. And her plant looks just like the one in FC. She's not selling it or showing it . I guess to me she can call it this. Everyone on the forum her names their Optimaras when there's several others that just look like it. And I let them know they can never be sure.
But that's Ok there are as many ways of growing as there are gardners. And today any information I post doay is wrong to you. But that's ok there's more than one answer to questions. Just beacasue someone does it one way does not mean it's wrong when someone esle does it another way.
Well Nanna sorry Jill said you can't give your plant a name :((.
I'm done with helping..

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Allison, I don't think Nanna mentioned that this plant came in an Optimara pot, but maybe I missed that.

There are so many misnamed plants out there (and I know you've complained of it too) that I'm just really hesitant to add to the confusion. So I try to be really sure of names and use "noid" or "lookalike" if I'm not certain.

I'm sorry you seem to be taking it personally that we had a difference of opinion here... I thought we were both making suggestions about dealing with unnamed plants, and I certainly wasn't trying to attack you. I thought it was cool that you'd come up with a "lookalike" name. I guess it's just hard to get tone across sometimes in posts... but I didn't intend to sound harsh. I'm sorry.

Here's the photo of my "Blue Star noid" that I mentioned... although it looks very similar to Nanna's plant in this picture (and also to the posted pic of 'Optimara Chagall'), Nanna saw my plant in bloom (OK, the blooms were pretty faded) and said it was definitely different than hers. So, it's just hard to make a definite ID from photos.

I don't expect you or anyone to agree with me. If we all had to agree there would only be one posting to each thread and only only way to see things.
I tld Nanna her plantlooke like my Russian plant I pad $ 8.00 for the leaves. lol
It does in my eyes.
Severnoe Siyanie (Prilutskaya). Single white pansy/purple eye with streaks from center . Dark green, wavy, serrated/red back. Standard.

" I'll post the picture of it in the end ! " I also told her it looked like Optimara Chagall ! She agreed :)) I would think if it was not Optimara she would have said so. Shedi post in picture under neath ~ " Another NOid I haven't named yet. It's Optimara but I haven't found it on the ID -- "
Now to my eyes I don't think your noid looks like Optimara Chagall or Severnoe Siyanie.
Does this make me wrong ? Or you wrong ? Does it mean I am taking this personally ?
The big answer is "No" :))
It's my opinions and I thought we were both making suggestions ." not " disagree with each other . I was posting my suggestions, coments, and opinions. The more postings of different suggestions, coments, and opinions the merrier :))
Here is my Russian look alike :))

OK, I'm glad we're good. :-)

That's a stunning bloom! I love the ruffly edges, and it looks like there's almost a delicate striping or veining effect running through the blue-violet color.

Silver Spring, MD

Hey guys! Thanks for both of the suggestions. Guess it is up to me to decide what I will do. I appreciate the help.

Jill Blue Star is wonderful. Allison I love the delicate look of your Russian plant.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes It's your plant Nanna. Your not selling it or showing it and there's no Av police at your home lol
Shine that Star :))
I do love the star bloom. The star on your's and the Russina is very vivid .

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Raspberry Rampage as well as the first noid is my favorites here.
Keep up the great work! - Photos, plants and doilies LOL

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi there,

Well I have to jump in with my Russian look alike that is a NOID....it is so similar and I have two of them and the foilage of the mother and the baby are different.

The mom has regular AV leaves and the baby has shiny smooth almost succulent type leaves.

Both are attached...well maybe I will have to upload the baby separately.
