hi forum, with the fruit in fall, how does one grow this zone 3-9 holly (from seed) , does the fruit need to be dried before planting, or does
the seed need any special preparation or stratification ? jim
winterberry holly
I didn't look at the links, so I hope I don't duplicate too much. the seeds must be removed from the fruits and washed of any trace of fruit.
I had my success by then planting the seed in pots outdoors in the fall with germination occurring the following spring, thus indicating a need for cold stratification.
The fruit color and abundance may not be as pronounced on seedlings raised from seed of selected cultivars.

thanks, Decumbent -- these grow wild here and i thought to plant some seeds first, then get one
or two of the cultivars from a nursery.jim
